The Basin campground: what do users think?
Gordon “Hawkesbury Campground” McDonald: The Basin campground is the only place you can camp in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. This large, grassy area overlooks Pittwater, offering lovely surroundings and views. It’s easy to see why this waterfront campground is so popular. At The Basin, you’ll find great facilities along with a picnic area, sheltered beach and an inland lagoon. The campground accommodates up to 350 campers.Pitch your tent in a shady spot, enjoy a bike ride or a swim and see if you can spot the local swamp wallabies or kookaburras. There’s no car access to The Basin campground. You can park at West Head Road but it's a steep 2.8km walk to the campground from there. If you're not up for the hike, arrive by water taxi, boat or a ferry which leaves from Palm Beach Wharf.Restrooms: Flush toiletsPicnic area: Fires are only permitted in designated wood barbecues or fire pits. Fire pits can be booked onsite only and cannot be booked in advance. Firewood can be purchased at the campground.Gas/electric barbecues (free)Wood barbecues
Mark Powell: The Basin is spectacular this time of year. Hot sunny days and cold nights, perfect for sitting around one of the fire pits enjoying a bottle of red with friends or loved ones. Easy access via ferry. Highly recommend
Siamak Moradi: Nice place to camp on the weekends.
Jacky Fourie: Beautiful place to escape too! Perfect spot for a picnic!
Marty Middlebrook: Great support staff greet guests at the ferry stop, very clear designated camping area, lovely lush grass and fun in the sun. Just be sure to get to the ferry early - droves of people with carts take up too much room.Restrooms: Large with hot showers.Dog-friendliness: It’s a National Park, so no dogs
Vincent Chagnaud: Really nice place to stay over the weekend.
Dan Coleman: Perfect campsite for younger children. All the amenities you could need; showers/flush toilets, fresh water, vending machine, helpful rangers. A great place to test if your kids (and yourself) are into camping before trying somewhere with less comforts.
P Mitch: Amazing place
salvatore grimaudo: Beautiful weather, camp site was clean and well maintained. Ferry ride was quick and easy. Recommend for a nice day out.
Tash Jamieson: Lovely spot for a picnic and a swim! If you are boating over, just be careful where you anchor (don't dock at the pier and read the signs). Ate lunch next to some curious goannas.
Caleb lbj: No Dogs sadly if you want a lizard eating it no car camping at this spot
Józef Ochocki: Great campground, you can get there by ferry from Palms Beach
Nik Ayliffe: Good camp site and location for families - facilities good, swimming and nice hiking. Some logistical challenges with gear and ferry. Was way too crowded however and our camp was spoilt on the last night by a large group (who likely hadn’t even booked) setting up their tent less than 2 meters away from our camp site. Do not go here if you’re looking for your own camping space.
Andrew Leslie: Great, but long walk in and out
Billie Gosling: Beautiful camping spot. We visit several times a year and always have the loveliest time. Clean, peaceful spot and the facilities are always clean
Reza Karim: Perfect
Charlie Fa: Beautiful camping that has a very nice family and community atmosphere. People seem quite respectful and self aware.Even at full capacity it doesn’t feel overcrowded. The only downside is the amenities could be cleaned a bit better / more frequently but that is typically expected on camping grounds.
Dina Shcherbakova: Great place but still crowded and hard to get there with camping gear
Saumyya Bharadwaj: Quite, relaxing camping grounds. You can enjoy a day trip too..
Luz Marina Osorio: Lindo lugar para camping
Zara Smith: Extremely overbooked, not ideal if you’re looking for a quiet weekend

Bonnie Vale campground: what do users think?
Gordon “Hawkesbury Campground” McDonald: Bonnie Vale is a family-friendly campground located between Bundeena and Maianbar at the north end of Royal National Park. This popular riverside campground is known for its large sand spit, which makes it a great swimming spot.Whether you choose to pitch a tent or bring your caravan, you’re sure to have a comfortable stay at Bonnie Vale. The campground has a mix of powered and unpowered sites, and is equipped with flush toilets, hot showers and drinking water, so you won’t need to rough it.Go fishing at nearby Jibbon Beach, enjoy a barbecue by the sea or hike along Royal National Park’s long list of walking tracks. On weekends, you can even hire a kayak and paddle in the Hacking River.Nearby activities: Bundeena Drive to Marley walkCape SolanderCaptain Cook's Landing PlaceForest pathHermitage Foreshore track

Adrian W: Stayed on 19th March 2023 to 20th March 2023.Great clean grassy campsite areas. Very clean bbq areas and bathrooms, well looked after by park rangers as well as fellow campers. The showers are newly renovated and provide warm water. The bbqs are plenty along with drinking water taps and power outlets. I stayed at site 69 which along with sites 62-69 are right along the waterfront with uninterrupted views. Some sites are closer to grass and bushland. The only downside for some would be the number of crickets and mosquitoes at night.Restrooms: Clean but plenty of black crickets dropping from the roofs and on the bench top and in the basinPicnic area: Clean but black crickets flying around at night
Wayne Everett: Beautiful but the facilities get swamped by noon campers trying to use the shower and toilet block. Some people don't know how to control their children, especially new COVID campers. My car was hit several times by kids playing cricket on the road. They were not allowed to play next to their dads AMG ohh nooo.Rooms: 5/1|Service: 5/4|Location: 5/5 …More

Lake Eckersley campground: what do users think?
Samantha Gillett: Beautiful walk along the Pineline trail, Gymea Lillys in bloom on either side, path leads to a beautiful picturesque body of water.
Joey Parker: Nice and secluded. A bit tricky to find a good camping site
Aleksandra Deren: Remote but actually not that far from civilization. Quite small so you will have trouble pitching larger tent. Good if you want to have some time alone without the noise of others or maybe start training for the longer overnight hiksNo facilities.Presence of the river make it great resting spot.
Vitaliy Podstreshniy: Was a bit busy
Chloe Wang: Very nice place. However that whipbird... Let's you down big time
Morgan Eyles: Very nice for a swim, however campsite was a bit muddy and only really one rock to sit on to stay off the ground.

Tandara: what do users think?
Matt Boyd: Needs a bit of an update but enjoyable spot in the middle of a busy city.
Suah: There was a rat inside the tent 😱
AFC: I was a bit worried after reading some of the other reviews but our stay was wonderful! The Tandara is gorgeous, especially the bathroom which has a bathtub and double shower. The bed is huge and extremely comfortable. We had lots of visitors from bush turkeys and a very friendly water dragon who sat with us on the deck. We didn't find any issue with noise or location like some of the other reviews mentioned, we could mainly just hear birds. Overall, a really relaxing stay and we will definitely come again!
Linda Ly: Went here for 1 night with husband as a gift for his birthday. The PROS:- The bath and shower was nice, instant hot water- Deck was nice to eat and sit outside with - not sure about views overlooking Lane Cove National Park but it was nice still- Nice touch with the fake fireplace inside tent, good for cold evening- Large fridge for storage- Bed was soft and large- Reasonably close to walking Riverside walking trail and picnic pointsThe CONS:- We didn't know this, but the tent/area is directly under flight path. There were so many planes up until the late afternoon about 6pm, so it was quite noisy on the deck.- At night still, you can still clearly hear traffic/main road sounds from tent- The tent is weathered and tired-looking- The tent strongly smelled like wet umbrella which is understandable being out against the elements for ages. You need to try ventilate as much as you can. The tent had mould, dust and webs along ceiling.- Surfaces along bedhead, bedside tables, light shades needed wiping from dust- Nowhere on site mentioned what type of cutlery would be provided or not etc. Didn't know a microwave was provided. There was a kettle and toaster provided. I couldnt find, but there was no plates, no cutlery, any BBQ cooking utensils, dishwashing sponge/liquid, and no tissues. There was however 2 wine glasses, 3 mugs and 2 glass cups provided, with some tea/coffee + 1 milk. If you go, please bring those items to eat/clean with.- Had a mouse in the tent which... freaked us out. Guess that's what you get #natureOverall, it was OK the stay. Although you may feel physically you're out of Sydney being in the national park, the noise of traffic and planes made that impossible to completely take you there. You are literally next to the caravan park so just bear in mind you wont be secluded completely, you're pretty close to other people. The tent needs a bit of a refurbishment and work and airing. If you can, bring some mosquito repellent or coils as there is quite a number around or be mindful to close the tent net. And try not leave food scraps in bin outside next to BBQ as there was a possum that ransacked through it at night keeping us up and climbing on our tent. This review is trying to neutral and observant, if you decide to go just keep these pointer in mind for the visit.
Dave Williams: Wow this place last time we were here amaz ing this year gone down hill mould all through out bathroom all over roofing everywhere of course no internet tv almost falling off stsnd disappointed to all this wsy as stsff have let it go great wildlife a bonus
evie cartwright: We loved our stay here. Everything was perfect. Thanks for a great stay.
Vanderlei de Oliveira: Legal
Derek Proud: Glamping on the edge of the Lane Cove River National Park is sublime. Tandara is luxurious and secluded and sits right at the top of the hill leading down to the river (although you can't see it from the deck in front of the spacious tent). Remember to bring your own food and booze as there's not much to buy on site and it's a car ride to get anything. The tent is amazingly well appointed and has a permanent bathroom attached to the back of it, along with fridge/toaster/kettle. But the BBQ area outside is where the cooking occurs right next to the bush Turkey nest. Those, along with parrots, cockatoos, possums, dragonflies and more accompany your stay. Highly recommended.
Scott Cousins: Yea pretty good, worth the bucks
Alexandra O'Brien: We booked in for an anniversary treat. We are quite competent campers used to no amenities so when we found this we thought it would be the perfect compromise for a quiet weekend away with no tent pitching. What we actually discovered was that we would have been far more comfortable in our own tent and with our own gear. The idea is lovely and probably well appointed when it was first built but unfortunately it has not been maintained. The tent was shabby, the setting felt extremely over grown and scrubby with no view of the valley as described in the reviews. The powered camp site next door was brighter and had a much nicer outlook. Perfect to pitch our tent. Had we brought it.There was large mouldy patches on the tent and tears in the zips leaving large holes for any number of creepy crawlies to join us.We were harassed by a family of brush turkeys who seemed far too comfortable for our liking and even hoped on the table to join us for dinner.During he early evening we noticed a family of (bush) rats also making themselves at home near the large deck while we enjoyed our evening wine. Fair enough, we are in the bush. Can deal with wildlife...outside... I draw the line at the rats being inside nibbling on the soap left next to the sink and causing no end of disturbance. I would have happily, at this point relocated to the car to sleep had it not been for the warmth of the tent. THis was a positive as was the large single fridge inside and tv that we used to block out the road, air and rat noise. At one point my husband and I discussed driving home it was that ridiculous.Given the amount of weekends that are booked out for the coming year, I suggest some serious maintenance is done as it is certainly not the experience we were expecting. If you have a booking, please be aware it may not be as glamourous as the images... it was more Camping than GlampingWould never recommend or stay again and will be asking for a refund at this point.

BenandVon Richards: Stayed 2 nights (Sat&Sun) on a powered site at the end of May, and while it was busier than I expected for off peak, there was plenty of std powered sites available.Didn't use any of the playground equipment but the amenities were clean and well maintained. My gripe is, despite there being plenty of sites available to spread people out, it seemed like the management wanted to jam people next to one another. Also despite there being plenty of spots about, people were tenting on the island between "main street", the access in and out of the park. Perhaps this is necessary during the peak of summer holidays when the park is bulging at the seams, but a standard weekend in May?

Geri Haydon: I had a powered site in the northern end. Row K doesn’t get much sun early of a morning in May so if you want the sun to dry your tent or van before you leave at 10am get a row further south. No concrete slabs here but relatively level grassed sites. Power and water is easily accessible. The unpowered tent sites are small. They are located between two roads and under the rows of Norfolk Island Pines. Not a lot of sunshine for solar on the unpowered sites.I didn’t meet any staff. The booking was done online and all the checkin details were sent to me via email. It seems strange not talking to anyone or getting the low down on the place face to face. The amenities were clean and modern. Plenty of hot water in the showers. There are indoor kitchen facilities with two large fridges for use by everyone.
Dianne Banner: Fantastic clean, great locationRooms: Spacious, comfortable, very cleanWalkability: Easy walk to public transport, coffee shops, beach
Jane Cornell: We stayed eight nights in a lake view cabin in April. The cabins are good, well designed and have a nice outlook. The furniture is showing it's age and the kitchen equipment is basic. Our cabin, number nine, was closest to the road, but noise wasn't a problem. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, but management was not great. The overall cleanliness wasn't good. Although we were supposed to have a mid-stay clean included, we arrived home one day to find a pile of new linen left on the deck. I went to the office to query this. The girl on the desk was apologetic, but a woman from the back office appeared to tell me that staff won't enter a cabin if it's empty, unlike every hotel room in Australia! There was no prior warning of this or attempt to reschedule. She also said the property is self-catering, meaning we should clean it ourselves, despite only a few sachets of dishwashing liquid being supplied and no other cleaning products. Given the price per night I found this pretty poor and her attitude very negative. A hairdryer is provided, but is quite useless. BYO. We used the camp kitchen a few times. It was clean and well equipped. We gave up on using the wifi altogether.
Denis Ellem: A great place to stay, and in a fantastic location. The stay was great for me, but my wife was only able to have Luke warm showers due to some problem on 5 of the 7 days we were there. Others also commented, but maybe did not report it.We will be using this as our base in future caravan trips to Sydney.Bus stop adjoins the park, 2 adjoining coffee shops, plus an on-site one in the morning.Clean amenities, 200m to a surfing beach and rock pool. Lake for kayaking and SUP.The staff were friendly and helpful.
michael midgley: Great place and great location but unfortunately they had a bit of a rat problem and a few campers had the wire in there cars eaten... We had to park somewhere else just in case it happened to us, we could see them running around everywhere.Food & drinks: They had a lovely little coffee van by the water park area, great coffee and great service it was definitely a bonus.
David Knight: Location, location, location!Rooms: Basic, functional, comfy and clean.Nearby activities: A short stroll to the beach!

Ana Carol Almeida: Great facilities. Beautiful surroundings.
Anita Neeser: Great location to visit Sydney, but a bit expensive
Milena Kennedy (Mil): The little studio was clean and tidy. It doesn't have a coffee table or chairs inside. There are only basic kitchen items such as plates bowls cutlery mugs and glasses with the exact amount for 2 people. There is an electric jug but you will need to go to camp kitchen for toaster, microwave and other cooking facilities. There is an outdoor table and two chairs on the deck. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and there is much to do in the area.
施旻伶: Good campground for short holiday. All facilities were clean. Some children riding bikes so danger without adult care. Made us feel annoyed.Rooms: 5/4|Service: 5/4|Location: 5/4 …More

North Era campground: what do users think?
Gordon “Hawkesbury Campground” McDonald: Camp overnight at North Era campground, surrounded by the stunning coastal scenery of Royal National Park. Located on The Coast track behind pretty North Era Beach, the campground contains basic bush camping sites. You’ll need to be fully self-sufficient when camping, including bringing your own food, drinking water, cooking equipment and supplies. North Era campground is the overnight stop for hikers tackling one of Sydney’s classic bushwalks, the 26km Bundeena to Otford Coast track. Its position on The Coast track, south of the wonderful waves of Garie Beach, makes it a great spot for surfers, too. You’ll need to carry your board though – the campground can only be accessed by foot.Restrooms: Non-flush toilets
Juan Diego Arcuri: The way to the camping is super confusing and difficult, and it’s far far away from the parking area. The camping has nothing but the land to put the tent. The spot is beautiful but it’s not worth it
Steven Tsang: Peaceful camping ground. Can become busy so it is advised to book in advanced. The hike from Garie Beach is quite steep however slow and steady! Nice coastal beach, but be cautious as the beach does not have a lifeguard.
Max Staples: Super scenic walk in and out. For walkers doing the full coastal route, the North Era campsite is the only place you are permitted to stay. There is no shade. The site is exposed to winds. Most of the ground is boggy. The site is downstream from its own toilets. We set up, thought better of it, struck camp and walked out.
Andy Warboys: Right on the beach. Drop toilets as expected. Bring plenty of your own water.
El sama: Awesome place
Brayden Grant: Nice little place to camp but never go after wet weather- the toilets are a nightmare to get too with up to half a metre of mud in some areas
Anoji Thevarajah: Beautiful scenic location however toilets were not in great condition. No running water or toilet paper. Keep this mind when coming here
Robert William Reid: hot winds wash the midden out to seasix thousand years olda herd of deer ears pricked stare our way
Noor A Nazia: Only 3 pit toilets are available. Need to carry own food, water and tents if wanna stay. Thelma head hiking takes approx 1 hr from Garie beach.
James Naimo: The toilets were surrounded by marsh were gum boots 👢
Sam M: Nice scenic campground. Only facilities are a drop toilet, byo toilet paper.
tony hughes: You can catch the ferry from Cronulla warf to Bundena warf.Very relaxing.I have then walked from Bundena to Ottford several years ago now via the beautiful coastal track on three occasions. Its different each time and I can thoroughly recommend it if your fit enough.Camp over night at North Era.A tent is needed and the associated camping kit.Carry it in carry it out. Then you can catch the train back to the burbs from Ottford stn.Ensure to book with the National Parks first though prior to doing the walking treck.🌅
Gary B: Beautiful scenery and walk
Nadeem Hashmi: Best for camping specially on the full moon night...
matt swanson: On occasion, good surf
melandallan: Absolutely magical, nice secluded campsite right next to a beautiful beach!
Adam Long: Beautiful, peaceful spot with enough space to camp away from other tents. 3 toilets on site. Wallabies and deer will keep you company, but are quite shy.
Megan H: Stunning location halfway through the Royal National Park Coastal Track. It has an expanse of grassy areas, 3 (drop/environmental) toilets but no other services. You must prebook accomidation prior to arrival. There is no access to fresh/drinking water, rubbish bins or electricity. You will need to bring everything you need in and out. Also phone /internet service is limited. Great place to spend the night while completing the 2 day coastal track hike.
C F: Good campground but National Parks need to maintain the toilets better
