Traci Miles: It breaks my heart to only give Farmhouse 3 stars. When we went here 7 years ago, we felt very lucky to get a reservation! We happened to get the only 2 seats at the window separated from the single large dining table. It was a wonderful evening & we believe it would have been a great evening whether we had sat at the window or at the large table. We have also told other friends & family about this place and they have also gone and had good experiences.We also felt lucky this visit that we were able to get a reservation but last night was a very different experience and it made us sad. When we arrived we noticed immediately that there were tables lined up outside. The tables were either 2 or 4 seaters for up to 16 people. The 2 window seats we had sat at on our original visit were blocked by one of the outside tables and they had wine bottles also lining the window ledge so those seats clearly weren’t an option. The original long table was still inside the restaurant. When we arrived there was one couple already seated plus a lady sitting alone at the outside tables. When we checked in, we were told we could pick whatever table we wanted of the remaining 4 options on the sidewalk. I made a slight disappointed look and the hostess/waitress said “it’s good weather, outside is nice ok. And the nail salon will be closed in 30 minutes so those lights will go off and it will be dark then” Honestly, It was clear to us that outside was their preferred option for us and we just assumed that maybe they have a larger group coming for the inside table so we just selected our seat and went with it.There were only two - 2 seater tables for us to choose from although there was the single female at a 4 seater and another empty 4 seater but we assumed as a 2 person reservation we needed to select one of the 2 seater tables available. The result was that my husband faced directly into the nail salon. He got to watch a couple women get their toes done. I “fortunately” faced the street but that wasn’t anywhere near the ambience of sitting in the restaurant watching & experiencing all the going on’s of a restaurant. The most disappointing part of it was that later we realized that the inside table was completely empty. They chose to put all of us on the sidewalk. My husband ended up being the only one who faced directly into the nail salon because when the next couple arrived, they offered for them to sit at a 4 seater table and both sit on the same side facing the street with the nail salon behind them. I wish we had been offered that was option. We definitely would have selected that on our arrival. The nail salon turned it’s light off exactly one hour from our reservation time rather than the 30 minutes advertised to us when we were seated.The charm of this restaurant is not only the good food but it’s the cute space, the long table, the little counter, the feeling of being right in the hustle of the preparations, etc. We originally thought that maybe they were trying to recover from covid money loss by booking more seatings and taking advantage of the sidewalk but that wasn’t the case. They chose to seat everyone outside and no one inside. When I asked why no one was seated inside, I half expected them to say it was due to covid and no one was ever seated inside due to covid concerns but that’s not what she said. Her response was “we asked everyone and they chose to sit outside”. I can’t speak for how the others were asked this option but we weren’t really asked. It was clear to us that our seats were outside. Needless to say, it was very disappointing. It was our last night in Sydney and there are so many wonderful restaurants in Sydney so we were really bummed that we had chosen this one. Our waitress was nice, the food was good and beautifully presented but it is a totally different experience than what we signed up for. I am writing this review so that others can be aware of the changes that have been made so they are informed before making a reservation. I gave it 3 star though because the food and service both were good.

Mikhail Pardisian: Made a reservation for the set menu for two. Cozy and warm atmosphere, reminded me of the dishes and fine rustic restaurants of New Zealand. A very strong menu selection for the autumn month. Only minor fault out of our amazing overall experience was the small portion sizes. Staff were warm and friendly. Looking forward to booking again.

Samantha Feeley: Absolute favourite restaurant in Sydney. My partner and I have been here 6-7 times over the past few years and we've never had a bad meal.Reliable and simple food, done very well. The wine list is great, service is outstanding. Cannot fault anything. The concept is really interesting too because half of the menu changes every 2 weeks and so you get a different menu every month, this dynamic menu keeps us coming back for more, and you'll rarely eat the same thing twice. Mike and the team do an excellent job putting so much creativity into the ever-changing menu.

The four of us all agreed that it was one of the best meals of our lives. The wine pairings were unique and delicious. I can’t say enough good things about the whole experience. The value for money is out of this world. Thanks to the owner and his team for an amazing first night in Sydney. We can’t wait to visit the city again so we can dine there again.

Anna O'Keeffe: Recently booked dinner here for my husband's 40th with a group of 17. It was absolutely perfect. Having private dining and service was excellent. It was all very easy to organise with Mike, everything was done in advance so very little to think about on the night expect to enjoy the evening. Mike and his team were very happy to accommodate any special requests. The food was tasty and plentiful. Thanks guys for a great night. Definitely recommend if you are looking for private dining party experience.

Reason With doubt: the serenity you get to feel by simply seating at the courtyard as you await your food is an experience you'd want to be on repeat for awhile. Best mocha Iv had, avocado meal was "ayoba" as my mother would say and that 2seconds booking confirmation over the phone was the key to the type of service we were about to receive. Thank u

Skip Ford: We had our 25th wedding anniversary dinner with overseas guests (they had chosen chiswick as one of their must visit venues while in Sydney for 4 days!) We could only get an 8.30pm booking as nothing else was available. After getting our guests on arrival and sitting they took a wine order and not 5 minutes later the share menu food started arriving, without a great deal of explanation. It kept arriving quickly and our first course was just about finished before our first drink arrived. We asked them of they could slow down as we were feeling rushed. All the food was lovely it was only the tuna that was underwhelming. The service was efficient but not super welcoming. Dessert was amazing and we had coffee. Not long after we were told that as it is residential the premises was to be vacated by 11pm no question. We were told this 3 times in a rather firm manner. Quite disappointing for our 25th anniversary celebrations and a boll of $1500.00 ! We won't be returning I'm a hurry.

Danielle Watts: Gift cards hardly accepted anywhere, nothing within a 100km radius of where I live. The website is deceiving and makes you believe when you buy a gift card that it is accepted at the restaurants on the website. It’s not until I emailed them that you have to select a filter to show accepting restaurants which is nothing but pizza capers (within a 100km of where I live), who wants to spend $100 at a fast food restaurant (no offence to them). When I asked for a refund of the card because it’s not as they portrayed it to be they simply sent me their website directory and said I can buy wine with it if that doesn’t suit (not a wine drinker either).Would not recommend purchasing a gift card from this website, instead go directly to the restaurant.

Carrie Singles: My husband and I had dinner here last night. I ordered the bbq short rib as my husband had ordered it on our last visit here and thoroughly enjoyed it. When it came out I couldn’t cut into it. Some parts were ok but HALF was full of fat and grizzle. I’d left just over half and explained to our waitress why I couldn’t eat it. She also said “oh yeah I can see all grizzle and fat” she showed the chefs and their reply was that they would speak to their suppliers and they to could see that it was a bad cut of meat. I explained this on paying that I couldn’t eat it and I’d only eaten just under half. Her reply was I can’t do anything about it as you had almost half of it. She replied you should have sent it back when you got it. Ummmm how am I suppose to know how grizzly and fatty it is unless I eat some of it. She was very unhelpful and basically didn’t give a care in the world. I didn’t want a refund but maybe some kind of discount as over half was sent back. This experience and the way I was treated wasn’t acceptable . I was offered nothing and treated poorly.

It had been a while since we had dined at the Ternary and they have continued to raise the bar.The king fish sashimi entree was so delicate and well balanced dish. I also had the main course dish of gold band snapper which was perfectly cooked with a crunchy crispy skin.Throughout the night we looked after by Sharya who attended to all our needs with a smile and a positive attitude. She new her stuff as she answered every question we asked regarding the menu and much more. Great to see a young person with such high service standards and enthusiastic passion for her job.Can't recommend it highly enough regardless if you are staying in our not.Will back again for another enjoyable meal soon.

Xuan Pham: A good dining experience. The highlight of the night was certainly the beef tartare, probably the best I’ve ever tasted. The live jazz was incomparable. The only (and major) downside was the service - we felt extremely rushed, with the waiters removing our entree plates literally as we were still eating, with food still in our hands and on our forks. It was absolutely bizarre. Furthermore, one waiter quite condescendingly asked whether we knew what foie gras was, proceeded to call us “girls” the whole night, and then pretended to not understand us as we ordered the Gamay wine, despite our perfectly fine pronunciation. I felt a distinct power dynamic that should not have existed in such a fine restaurant.

Nathan Marsh: We had a simply marvellous experience at Hubert! The staff in this venue are exceptional and everyone was incredibly lovely. There is something special about Hubert and it is a testament to the people who work here. It is obvious that the staff are all very proud of where they work and so they should be, as they are what make experiences like ours happen.Our wait staff were all very knowledgeable about the menu and all had personal recommendations, plus nothing was too hard. You can always tell when a restaurant has given their team the opportunity to really experience the food and these guys were passionate. From the moment we entered, to the moment we left, we were made to feel welcome and special.The sommelier was patient and very accomodating with helping us chose a wine. I am not an expert in describing what I want, but I know what I like and with a couple of tastings, he helped us achieve that, while remaining within our price guide. The food blew our mind! Every dish had something unique to offer and nothing disappointed. The small plates were the absolute winner for me and I think next time I will opt for more of those instead of venturing into the mains. The crab espelette was incredible! Fresh and buttery at the same time. The flavour of the sea was still there, but it managed to balance a richness that left you wanted soooo much more. I would have loved to have seen some more options on the menu in terms of the larger plates. Perhaps a ‘Hubert version’ of some classics such as Beef Bourguinon, coq au vin, or a cassoulet. However, I could not fault anything and could taste the love in everything we selected. I will definitely be back to try the chicken fricassèe. A huge shout out to the person who take our coats, to whoever washed our plates, you are all making magic. It was the best experience we have had in a while and made my partners birthday extra special.

A waitress offered us oysters, but when I refused, she gave us a disapproving look.3. A waitress tried to immediately take down a plate of food that had not been completely eaten, which made me uncomfortable. Some customers want to eat a little at a time.4. The wine bottle is not placed on the table, so if I run out of wine in my glass, I had to wait until a waiter comes to pour. If the service does not allow pouring wine into empty glasses, it should be abolished.

I am not usually one for "fancy" food, but I tried to keep an open mind here and I'm so glad I did. I tried all the options and each element was delicious. I had not even heard of eating pearl meat, but it was wonderful. If you are unsure of a new food item, this is an ideal place to try them.

I had my first bite and couldn’t finish it as it was extremely chewy/rubbery, so i asked my husband to swap with me as I thought it was just to my taste. He had a bite as well and confirmed it was so chewy and rubbery, and could not finish it.We told the server who was helping our table but didn’t receive any apology whatsoever, or offered to change it. But she did acknowledge though as she saw that the wagyu was barely halved. So we were confused if it was a language barrier or she just didn’t know what to do. Very awkward, but we just didn’t want to cause a scene.Overall, we wanted to love it as it was for our anniversary, but i don’t think it’s worth it unfortunately.

Sandra Gounden: I organised a high tea to celebrate my friend’s milestone birthday on the 26/3/23. To begin with they didn’t have the teas that we requested. We were given just one sandwich each, which was stale. This was suppose to be an ‘Easter high tea’ but had absolutely nothing relating to Easter. When I enquirer about this, I was presented with brownies, which were rock hard and couldn’t be cut. I did call the next day and was told that someone in management would give me a call, still waiting!!!!Overall a very disappointing experience. At $75 per person, you’d be better off spending your had earned money at the Sheraton for their high tea or even Lilianfels which are much cheaper and better quality in my experience.
