D M: The NSW Ombudsman and senior staff should be ashamed of how poor their complaint service is.I asked to complain about their service by email and phone which produced no response.

David York: Transport for NSW puts forth application forms for mobility parking scheme, ie disabled parking. The forms are for organisations and for individuals. They are in English and also 15 or 16 other community languages. On every one is the question 'Who is eligible?', with an answer not referring to the existence of a place/State of residence test. The only criteria are to sufficiently prove your ID and to sufficiently prove your mobility limitation.TfNSW applies a place/State of residence test, regardless, making no move to update the answer to the eligibility question in the one place all intending applicants cannot deny to having advance notice of all the requirements. It is also not a mandatory requirement out of the relevant part of the Road Transport (General) Regulation that place/State of residence bears any significance: as long as you're physically present to make the application in NSW.Oh and also TfNSW also has nullified my medical eligibility for the non-medical reason of holding an unexpired interstate photo ID. Finally, Service NSW continues to enforce a transaction ban on my using the telephone and internet portals for their services: things starts with the mobility parking scheme and extends to all other things besides (driving, vehicle registration, work licensing, business name registration, fine payments, maritime regulation, & it goes on).NSW Ombudsman is okay with this. All of it.Toothless, docile, acquiescent, compliant: the adjectives that come to mind.

c “hec” k: I would have given a zero star if it’s an option. I complained about the HCCC, which should be shut down for wasting our taxes and be replaced by an agency composed of able people from the health and medical professions so they can make intelligent assessments of the HCCC’s procedures, investigation processes, decisions, and outcomes. Despite documentary evidence, the Ombudsman sided with the HCCC in deciding that the school Counsellor I complained about for causing emotional harm to my son with ASD did not do anything wrong. This is despite the fact that the Counsellor clearly ignored the guidelines of the Australian Psychological Society, thereby putting my son’s life at risk. Like the HCCC, they said it’s an “I say, she says” case, with 2 differing versions; they didnt know which to believe despite the materials I provided to them. They wouldn’t even warn the psychologist that her actions could put students’ well-being and even lives at risk. It’s unbelievable! They said their function is not to assess the decisions of the agency, but whether the agency followed proper procedures in assessing the complaint. How can the HCCC reach their questionable decisions if they followed proper procedures?So who does the Ombudsman report to? Take the matter to your local MP, and request that he take it to the NSW Parliamentary Office, which reviews the performance of the Office of the Ombudsman. We should make a petition for reforms, which is what I’m doing, and make noise by getting signatures, writing the media,etc until the government is prepared to listen.

Alistair Cossey: Horrible experience. Have been given the run around to lodge a complaint about state Parole Authority. I have all the proof of their wrong doing and utter injustice. However no one is even willing to listen & keeps sending me to different organisations for resolution with no outcome achieved. Absolute joke & waste of tax payers efforts/money.

Cassie Kay: Proceed with caution before making a complaint to the NSW Ombudsman .You run the real risk of a very poor outcome that can NEVER be changed even if you provide absolute proof that they made an error or an incorrect decision. The Ombudsman is highly respected .If they make a wrong decision, it will prevent you from obtaining assistance from any other avenue. Going to the Ombudsman was our biggest mistake. When we complained to the Ombudsman about the NSW Education Dept anything the Department said was accepted as truth & our rock-solid evidence was dismissed. The Ombudsman incorrectly advised us that the Education Dept was conducting a ‘second’ Internal Review of our complaints .On this false premise , they declined to intervene or investigate. As we had not applied for an Internal Review or had a previous one there could not be a 2nd Internal Review. We were unable to correct the Departments lie or the Ombudsman’s error because nobody cared. The Ombudsman didn’t even bother to ask for proof of a previous Internal Review. This lack of due diligence enablde 2 officers of the NSW Education Dept to pretend to review a document that does not even exist ; a fact easily demonstrated by FOI requests. They were then free to lie , to create damaging false allegations & harmful false misinformation about our personal ,private & health information in an unbranded document that was used to our detriment. They pretended that bogus document they created ,was a bona-fide Internal Review that we had applied for ! It is written on scrap paper without any mandated Government branding or letter head . It is devoid of contact details & has no header or footer or doc number .This clearly bogus document was accepted by the Ombudsman as official & genuine despite these facts and the fact that A) all Privacy Internal Reviews are applied for and paid for by an external applicant & we did not apply B) Privacy Internal Reviews are ALWAYS written by the Education Departments Legal Directorate & this wasn't done & C) Privacy Internal Reviews are overseen by the Privacy Commission but this was not done .The Ombudsman has no jurisdiction over Privacy matters .We were robbed of our right to a legitimate Internal Review.It is mandatory that all official Government Departments use branding on official documents. This is the law .The Education Department & the Ombudsman have a duty to abide by & uphold the law . Australian citizens have the right to the protection those laws provide ; there are no exceptions or exemptions .How and why is my family being treated outside the law ? It appears from our experience that the Ombudsman supports & protects the government agency you complain about .Our complaints remain unresolved & our reputations ruined . The Ombudsman acted against us instead of for us & supported the Education Dept despite the fact that the false document is in conflict with DOCS, police, medical professionals & Family Court evidence .We believe the Ombudsman should have acted against such blatant misconduct. Creating a false document is illegal and comes under laws governing forgery & fraud as outlined in the Crimes ACT 1900. Why didn't the Ombudsman care about this blatant abuse of the law or of our human rights or of the serious harm the false document caused me and my family ,including two children with disabilities ? The Ombudsman has not cared about the impact of their decisions ; decisions made on false information from the very agency we were complaining about ! The NSW Education Dept has never been held accountable & it appears nobody holds the Ombudsman involved accountable .Our misplaced trust in the Ombudsman to help us , empowered the Education Dept to continue to harm us and our children ,with the Ombudsman’s endorsement and protection. The Ombudsman has refused to reverse their wrong decision or give us a real voice . What happened to my family should be impossible ; it is behaviour Australian’s condemns under other regimes in other countries ,but we are no better . I hope my review saves others from the same suffering.

David Boettiger: Frame themselves as an organisation that will help you convince a government agency to see sense and reason. However, when you lodge a complaint they invest all their time into figuring out how NOT to help. Unless you can prove a government agency is doing something blatantly illegal, I wouldn't bother with the NSW Ombudsman. They'll only bring you further frustration.

J S: Wasted my time. The person who was investigated did not contact me before making the decision. I feel so disappointed that I lost all faith in humanity. I followed their instructions and the college AHSI retaliated. NSW Ombudsman did not interven on time and overlooked all the information. If you are students, do not complaint because things get wrose by following NSW Ombudsman adviced. If I could give a 0, I would for the poor service.
