A waitress offered us oysters, but when I refused, she gave us a disapproving look.3. A waitress tried to immediately take down a plate of food that had not been completely eaten, which made me uncomfortable. Some customers want to eat a little at a time.4. The wine bottle is not placed on the table, so if I run out of wine in my glass, I had to wait until a waiter comes to pour. If the service does not allow pouring wine into empty glasses, it should be abolished.

Lyn: A very atmospheric restaurant with thoughtful and attentive staff and exceptionally delicious food. I am not usually one for "fancy" food, but I tried to keep an open mind here and I'm so glad I did. I tried all the options and each element was delicious. I had not even heard of eating pearl meat, but it was wonderful. If you are unsure of a new food item, this is an ideal place to try them.

I had my first bite and couldn’t finish it as it was extremely chewy/rubbery, so i asked my husband to swap with me as I thought it was just to my taste. He had a bite as well and confirmed it was so chewy and rubbery, and could not finish it.We told the server who was helping our table but didn’t receive any apology whatsoever, or offered to change it. But she did acknowledge though as she saw that the wagyu was barely halved. So we were confused if it was a language barrier or she just didn’t know what to do. Very awkward, but we just didn’t want to cause a scene.Overall, we wanted to love it as it was for our anniversary, but i don’t think it’s worth it unfortunately.

Sandra Gounden: I organised a high tea to celebrate my friend’s milestone birthday on the 26/3/23. To begin with they didn’t have the teas that we requested. We were given just one sandwich each, which was stale. This was suppose to be an ‘Easter high tea’ but had absolutely nothing relating to Easter. When I enquirer about this, I was presented with brownies, which were rock hard and couldn’t be cut. I did call the next day and was told that someone in management would give me a call, still waiting!!!!Overall a very disappointing experience. At $75 per person, you’d be better off spending your had earned money at the Sheraton for their high tea or even Lilianfels which are much cheaper and better quality in my experience.

Sasha Sharil: I should have read the review but Instagram have blind me. Flew in Sydney for the weekend and was super excited for it but unfortunately very DISAPPOINTED. I could go to a better restaurant for the price we paid. The only highlight on the table is beef tartare. Salmon sashimi does not taste like salmon sashimi but it taste more like smoke salmon because you can tell the salmon have been cured. At the end of the dinner the payment came out with a TIP. I think that’s ridiculous for us to pay a TIP while service aren’t that top. I have to unfollow on Instagram because I was that upset with everything. I will never recommend anyone to come here, don’t be fool with their Instagram story and picture.
Pat: The food was average but the service was horrible. Spent $1000 amongst 7 of us and was extremely disappointed. Went there with a birthday cake and gave it to the manager beforehand. We had our food and waited 30min for them to clear the table for them to bring the cake back out in the box and tell us there was no time for the cake and we had to leave as our sitting had run out. Completely ruined a friend's birthday due to the managers incompetence and disrespectful attitude. Wouldn't recommend at all. Better steak places across Sydney where you will get better steak for less and treated properly like a paying customer.

We had a good service from two female staff until 5 minutes after finishing the main meals one male staff that did not serve us at all from the beginning came straight up and asked if its ok to give us the bill. Other restaurants would come and ask if we want dessert or more wine, but this one acted like they wanted us to leave asap so we decided to take the bill and pay and have deserts or drinks elsewhere instead of here (hopefully this is not due to that we do not fit in their "typical customers" category). We had to literally walk over to someone and ask for the order again and again. The location itself is pretty good but it’s a shame the staff don’t know what they are doing and showed a massive lack of care towards us. At some point one of my mates asked for the item that never arrived and the waitress’s answer was “we are too busy”. I’ve worked in hospo for 5 years and that sort of answer is just not ideal. VP: I had a great time at Hyde Hacienda! We were given great seating with a view of the harbour during vivid. Service was amazing, even though we received the wrong drink, it was quickly fixed (with an additional complimentary drink too). The floor manager, Hannah, really went to extra lengths to make sure we had a great time, her service and attitude was amazing! :)

We arrived there 30mins early waited Infront for their opening and a staff kindly asked if we had reservation and said if it’s okay to wait 10 more mins for them to open. We stood there patiently. Finally they opened the door and informed us that they were closed for the day because of an event happening, they booked the whole place out…. It would’ve been nice to inform us when they saw us standing there for 30mins instead of waiting till their “opening time” to tell us this. We were like okay, have you got the stools to sit on? Obviously she had no clue and needed to check . Eventually we sat down. So we spent the whole afternoon until late evening. Guess what, they had no bookings and there were more staff on the floor than guests. She didn’t even bother to offer us a table despite seeing the bar area is empty. I mean the host is the first point of contact and it makes a big difference how you welcome your guest. I don’t even know how you got this job , but you certainly need to work on your customer service skills. If you hate your job, just quit and do not make it obvious for the guest who come to enjoy nice afternoon. The bartender and staff were friendly and helpful . At the end we spent like $160 per head and our friend joined us later. Would I rush back ? Definitely no if that unfriendly woman works there again. Jared Zak: Failed to honour a gift voucher my staff bought me for Christmas. Staff were rude and unhelpful when I tried to address the issue, where I was effectively accused of fraud - whereas it was clear if there was any fraud it was either by their staff or through poor systems. The original was held by me at all times and presented at the end of the meal - and I was told the only way to claim was through an original. Embarrassing for all concerned.
Lis: Monopole is the perfect place to meet up with friends after work. We just love the happy hour menu and French champagne. The service is consistently excellent and we never feel rushed. Our favourite is the Sydney rock oysters and chicken liver parfait. Happy hour is available Wednesday to Friday from 4-5pm 👍

Esther Lee: I booked a table of 8 for 8.30pm and was seated at 8.45pm. When I asked the table would be ready at 8.29pm, the staff said it's not 8.30pm yet (really? She was abrupt and unapologetic, and felt like we were being shut down by just asking when our table would be ready.We eventually got seated at 8.45pm without a single apology.Food was alright but the service throughout our dinner was pretty poor and felt very rushed with the waitress almost smashing our wine glass when pouring the wine.If the restaurant expects their customers to arrive on time, I expect my table to be ready on time. If the previous customers arrived late or are taking a while, that is not my issue and that is on the restaurant to rush them so the table is ready by 8.30pm.OR at least apologise for 15min wait time?

Wendy: Although on the pricier side, Monopole is perfect for a girls or date night. Conveniently located near Wynyard station, it was easy to get to after work. The wait staff were professionally welcoming, I was quickly shown to my table on arrival and my umbrella put away for me by the door. The food was delicious and prepared with care, there was nothing to fault. I also enjoyed the great selection of wine and cocktails. From the beats to the service, everything was fantastic - highly, highly recommended.Vegetarian options: Great variety of cheeses to choose from, as well as a few menu selections. No vegan options as far as I can remember, though.

Extensive choice of drinks alcoholic and non alcoholic and variety of small servings of food to accompany your drink of choice. If you like whiskey there are several options to try and the bar has mini whiskey barrels around it. Great atmosphere, lots of little private alcoves, and is a nice place to catch up with a friend and have a relaxing chat.

A little odd, but then we were shown to a tiny little table that was constantly knocked by passerbyers (even knocking things off the table).The food was nothing special, especially for the price. However, the biggest disappointment was a drink called 'Highland Fling' ($24) which tasted like watery soy sauce. We were asked why we didn't drink it and replied honestly. No remedies were suggested and no apologies - instead they simply walked away. A couple minutes later they came back and we assumed they were correcting the situation - no. Instead they let us know we needed to leave soon as they had a reservation coming soon.What a stitch up.

Jordan Km: My partner and I visited O-bar yesterday evening for a belated birthday dinner for him. I was extremely excited to go here and my family kindly helped us pay to have some snacks and drinks here as a present for him. Straight out of the elevator the first thing we were met with was quite a strong smell of sewage. At first I thought maybe we were right next to the bathrooms but we weren’t, and even then it was really unpleasant and not how I expected my first impression to be. Then for the bar snacks we ordered sweet potato fries (which were lovely) and the feta and chilli hummus dips (each dip was $14 which I thought was very expensive). When I ordered I asked what the feta and hummus came with and the waitress said bread which I was pleased with. When the food arrived however we received a single half a piece of sourdough each and that was it. I was really surprised about this as I assumed surely each dip would have at least come with half a piece of bread on their own let alone me having ordered two, if that was the way they chose to serve the food. There were two of us, two dips and half a piece of bread each. I wasn’t sure if we were just supposed to eat the rest with a spoon and honestly for the price both were really average. Later on when we both had our drinks I decided to ask if there was anything else small on the menu we could order as I was still hungry and the waitress said there was in fact extra bread for $3. I was more than happy to order and pay for that (which I did) however I wish that this would have at least been offered alongside the dips, or better they just give you more accompaniments in the first place. During our experience there the smell of sewage didn’t really go away either and none of the wait staff addressed it. Finally when I went to pay I was asked if I would like to add a tip and I said no. I then noticed on my receipt that an almost $11 gratuity tip had been added? I wasn’t sure if this was just standard and the tip was meant to be extra or if this was the tip and the lady didn’t press no on the machine but I was really unhappy about it. Normally I would have just left it. But this was meant to be a one off amazing experience and it wasn’t. The place smelled terrible, and we spent nearly $42 on bar snacks and received half a piece of bread and that was it, on top of spending $142 overall including the drinks. I do want to be transparent and say the staff were lovely and refunded me the gratuity amount which I did feel really awful about. They were all pleasant no issues there. It was more the lack of value for money, the poor smelling environment, overpriced and very average tasting food.

Sigrid Buela: The waiter on our side was unprofessional in answering our questions. One instance was when my husband asked him about what to order for a 3-course meal, it was our first time dining at your restaurant so we are not familiar and just making sure, that waiter responded in a rude tone with "I already told you this" before answering him. He was also sarcastic and seemed annoyed. This made our mood a bit sour as I saw a difference on how he assisted us and with the other dining customers. However, I still gave him the benefit of the doubt.Second, I saw that the customers across our table, who were celebrating a birthday as well, were given a birthday card/voucher/gift, I'm not sure what it was but the women thanked the waiter for the gift and a "Happy Birthday" was written on the card. They even had this cool light display cocktail and share plate that perfectly matched the vibe.Now, onto the food. We sat in the bar area to have some lunch (instead of going into the formal restaurant with a tasting menu only). As a cocktail bar, they do NOT sell warm drinks even in winter, with the exception of mulled wine. For food, we got the insalata terzini (simple, fresh, good), the king prawn roll (six fried shrimp on a hotdog roll with spicy aioli), and the beer battered dory and chips. The prawn roll was actually quite amazing, and the chips were perfectly cooked. Stop in for a quick bite and drink, then be on your way.

JS: This restaurant has amazing views of Bondi Beach. However, there are major issues with the food offerings. The risotto with prawns tasted great, but had virtually no prawn content. There were about 3 tiny raw prawns (reminiscent of the ultra small prawns you used to get in a fried rice dish at suburban Chinese restaurant in 1970s.) Where did they find such small prawns? The other entrees had similar issues with lack of protein content. Do not order fish dishes for your main course. They have absolutely no flavour. I have had glasses of filtered water with more flavour. The wagyu beef dish was undercooked. Do not order the Petit Fours, which should be renamed petit twos.As for service, you will be pouring your own water. The wine mark ups are the most excessive I have seen anywhere in the world, often at multiples greater than 5. Tyrell's Belford Semillon was priced like a luxury wine.Besides the great views, there is little to admire about this restaurant.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything was flawless. The welcome team, our waiters and sommelier were outstanding, with perfectly timed service, answers to questions, and recommendations. Everyone in the kitchen from the executive chef right down the line has this menu nailed, you could not have got it more perfect if you tired any harder, I truly believe you could choose anything on this menu and love it totally even if you think you normally would not like one or two ingredients. Combinations so perfectly balanced, and considered that every mouthful leaves you wanting more. Again to everyone at Rockpool I thank you for making an amazing night even better, you are amazing we cannot wait to come back and bring our families to enjoy everything you have to offer.

Tim McArtney: Going downhill faster than a black run on the slopes. Super excited for a trip here, but were very quickly disappointed.Where to start? Endless bread and butter was not endless, but rather only offered twice...after we asked. A couple seated 1/2 way through our meal were given B&B straight away...maybe because we had to keep asking.Entrees were delicious, but we ate them sheepishly as we ordered one serving but came out as two, which was not communicated to us...might have enjoyed it more if we had known...Main meat (priced over $100 for 300g) was chewy and not cooked properly. Almost bitter, and we were impressed just how bad it was.Sides were overcooked and oily (potatoes, pumpkin and brussels sprouts) to which we feel we were 'upsold' as it was far too much food.Walked upstairs to go the toilet only to be ignored by several staff members who surely must have seen my inquisitive looking...Yes, before writing this review I emailed them. I didn't wish to publicly 'name and shame' however, it was the lamest response, to which they said 'come back and give us another chance'....Everytime another restaurant/business/service/any other person offers you to come back, they usually offer a voucher or discount...but nope, nothing. I even hinted at it, to which they again gave a pretty lame response of hope to see you soon.If you've got this far in my review, well done, reading this is way juicer than the steak they offer.Head over to Porteno on Holt Street in Surry Hills for a much better experience.If you can't tell, I don't recommend going here. Famous in the 90s, Forgotten about in the 2020s.

Went straight to the bar and grabbed drinks and burgers.Really good, juicy and full of flavour without having to have heaps of sauces.Had mac n cheese and empanadas as sides. Best empanadas I've had in Sydney.Burgers one of a kind. I'm not an expert, can't say they are the best in town, but I am definitely having my next one here.About $50 pp including tasty beer and old fashion cocktail. Beer was a hazy IPA from Pirate Life. It helped washing down all the flavour from burgers and sides.Quick service, great place to stay and have a chat.
