Sydney Cardiothoracic Surgeons: what do users think?
Sandra Mullins: My name is Raymond Mullins 72 I had heart failure in 2018 Dr Bayfield performed 5 bypasses. He was very professional and explained procedures in a caring manner.I have had further surgery with Dr Bayfield and would highly recommend him as a surgeon.
Paula Maiorano: Could the management please send the receptionist on customer service training. A smile and kind word cost nothing and take little time....even when she's obviously very busy staring at her screen and willing people to leave her alone.
Brad Edwards: Visited in December 2017. Very informative and took time to go through all results ans scans.

Dr Manu Mathur: what do users think?
Maya Ibarburu: I was operated on the 15th of September 2022 by Dr. Manu Mathur, for MVR + AVR +MACResection/Repair + Septal Myectomy.I knew that this operation was high risk and had less than 50% chance of success, but since I saw Dr. Manu, he gave me a lot of confidence and made me take the decision to have the operation.Dr. Manu is not only a brilliant surgeon but also an absolute gentleman. He is a wonderful human being!Since I am his patient, he has always supervised my recovery. He is a very special person and very dedicated to his profession, I really thank God that he put him in my way.God bless you Dr. Manu.
Mark Fitzpatrick: I owe Dr Mathur immense gratitude for saving my life, not once but twice. He replaced a leaking aorta valve back in 2010. This kept me alive until it started leaking again, 12 years later. I was lucky enough to have Dr Mathur perform my second operation, which again saved my life. This man is not only a brilliant surgeon but also an absolute gentleman. He is a wonderful human being! I feel incredibly blessed to even know this man. A special person indeed. God bless Dr Mathur... Mark
Adam Hastie: Dr Mathur operated on me in May 2022. This man goes above and beyond anything you would expect to provide for his patients' needs. A lovely person and a brilliant surgeon, I cannot thank Dr Mathur and the staff at North Shore Private Hospital enough.
Roger Brown: Prolonging life may not be that significant to a professional like Dr Manu Mathur as it is his daily routine. I can tell you at the age of 69 it was the gift of life and highly significant to me.I was informed that had I not have had the BYPASS operation that my days were numbered. Naturally my logical side took over and I was GRATEFUL to be given the opportunity(having never had a general anaesthetic) to have the skills of Dr Mathur, operate on me successfully and make my experience to say the least "enlightening"His gentle manner, his forthrightness is exactly what you want when you are placed in this dilemma.Dr Mathur's follow up process is second to none, concise, informative and delivered in a gentle forthright manner.I am so grateful that Dr Mathur decided to take on my cause at the Royal North Shore Hospital and my appreciation is given(with my new heart) to him personally and his extremely competent, team of Professionals.Thank you Dr Mathur for an excellent outcome and for making me feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the WHOLE process.Roger BROWNM.A.I.C.D.
jeroen dyk: My name is Jeroen Dyk. A brief but very sincere thank you to an amazing team and to Doctor Manu Mathur. After having a first aortic valve done in 1980 as a thirty year old I was always under the impression it couldn't be replaced. After the valve finally slowed my ability to function at an acceptable level I was lucky to be referred to Dr. Mathur.its called a redo.Dr Mathur put me at total ease from the minute I met him, assured me of the high probability of success, then proceeded to make everything , including my recovery, a breeze.Im 69,I don't pretend it didn't hurt for a few days , but within weeks ,yes weeks, I was walking long distances and it felt like I had new legs. Now 1 month later I'm already feeling like a new man.Dr Mathur's aftercare, Karen his secretary, and all involved have been amazing. Thank you for my amazing new chance at life. Brilliant.
Shanti Bedard: If you are reading this Google review it’s likely you are trying to find a cardiothoracic surgeon in Sydney. It’s an emotional and daunting task to find a heart surgeon you can trust, who has the experience and expertise you need. You won’t have to look further than Dr Mathur.1. Dr Mathur successfully operated on my father in June 2020. This was on the basis that he needed a mitral valve replacement as the major part of the surgery.2. At the beginning of the surgery it was discovered that Dad also needed his aortic valve replaced. Dr Mathur kept us in the loop with what was happening and was able to replace both valves.3. After 11 hours in surgery, Dr Mathur still found time to see us straight afterwards and give us (worried family members) a run down of the operation.4. When I was doing my research on Dr Mathur prior to the operation (which is natural because you want the best for your loved ones), I reached out to people I knew in the medical industry - hands down everybody said he was a fantastic doctor, meticulous, skilled and just a really nice person. They also advised that the cardiac team at NSPH were amazing (which we found to be true). I was also told Dr Mathur had particular experience with Mitral Valve surgery, which was very comforting.5. Every interaction we had with Dr Mathur was positive. No question we asked was too silly. He is a genuinely decent human being and extremely kind and compassionate. My father recovered in record time and was back to work in 4 weeks, so he is a testament to the skills and experience of Dr Mathur. We feel indebted to Dr Mathur and have the utmost respect for him.
Alex Ch: He saved my mother's live by doing a complicated heart valve replacement surgery in 2008. Highly professional and I heard from my friends that he is one of the top surgeons in Australia.
Anthony P: Back in 2005, my mother needed urgent treatment to replace her mitral and aortic valves. Due to the urgent nature of the operation (she would not have had long to live otherwise), she is still alive today and going OK.Dr Mathur was extremely professional and did an amazing job to assist her. Thank you very much :-)
Christian Biggins: What can you say about a person who saved your life? I'm not talking about simply doing your job, I'm talking about somebody who went so far above and beyond for me that I find it difficult to articulate in a text area below a 5 star 'rating'.4 stars is a common rating for a life saved, everybody knows that. Dr Mathur would get a 6 if it was possible. Not only did he come back to work on me after he had gone home and started travelling to New York but he missed his flight, on purpose, because I needed him. After fixing me, he travelled the next day. Sure there were other cardiothoracic surgeons available, but I needed *him* and he answered my (or, at least the hospital's) call.Post surgery he continued to be amazing with great bed manner and the patience to explain what happened to me and how we progress from here. Every meeting with Dr Mathur is pleasant and I have such a strong feeling that he legitimately wants to help and do the best he can. What can you say to somebody like this other than Thank You? How can you apply a 5 star rating to somebody who is ratings-less?
Catherine Kelso: My husband suffered a ruptured aorta on 29 December 2015 and underwent an emergency aortic A-dissection at RNSH the same day, performed by Dr Mathur who happened to be on duty at the time. He spent 1 week in ICU and about 1 week in cardiac recovery, and throughout this time received exemplary service from Dr Mathur, intensive care doctors and other hospital staff. He has seen Dr Mathur 4 times since the operation for post-operative checks, which have confirmed a successful recovery. Dr Mathur has been sympathetic and interested in my husband's case and his wellbeing. He has proved his surgical skills by the success of the operation, and has been well backed up by RNSH, which has in our view confirmed its standing as the top cardiac hospital in NSW, if not Australia.
Therese Mackay: The treatment my husband received by Dr Manu Mathur at RNSH Hospital in 2007 was unacceptable. His brutal treatment subsequent death and lack of justice is an appalling indictment on the New South Wales health Department and the doctor. It is unacceptable for Dr Mathur a cardiothoracic specialist to assume that my husband had been seen by another cardiothoracic specialist previously prior to surgery before his arrival at the Sydney hospital from our country hospital. It is unacceptable to do non-urgent lung surgery on a patient with a spirometry measure which said lung age over 100 years when the patient is a 56 year old quadriplegic. It is unacceptable to do non-urgent lung surgery without any blood tests at all. It is unacceptable to do non-urgent lung surgery without any pathology test. It is unacceptable to do non-urgent lung surgery on the person without evaluation by the surgeon and the anaesthetist until inside the operating theatre when the patient was asleep. It is unacceptable to do not urgent lung surgery using a product known in medical studies to cause acuter respiratory distress syndrome which is what happened. It is unacceptable after non-urgent lung surgery for doctors to mistakenly suction the lung for 22 hours at 10 times the required amount and then cover up their mistake. The above mistreatment and neglect in Royal North Shore Hospital Sydney lead directly to my husband Donald Mackay's death in 2007. Dr Manu Mathur still need to explain his dreadful treatment of my husband which caused his death. The New South Wales coroner said and I have the document it was the treatment which cause the death.
Janet Owens: In reference to Dr Manu Mathur: (North Shore Private Hospital)I was detected as having a faulty mitral valve in the heart. The valve was allowing a significant release of blood back through the valve once the valve closed. This caused me to become tired while doing manual work much sooner and normal. Tests proved I had no cholesterol in the arteries. To repair the valve, I searched for a number of days to find the best heart surgeon. Given I had read about one dissatisfied report, I still came up with Dr Manu Mathur from North Shore Private Hospital. There had been no substantiation for the dissatisfied report and appeared to be from someone who would complain whatever the situation.I spoke with many medical persons, doctor friends, senior nurses and other patients, only to find that Dr Mathur was held in the highest esteem and his medical practices were second to none. Many stated that they would always recommend their friends to Dr Mathur for operations. (That was a great reference)Upon meeting Dr Mathur, he explained in very great detail, as to what the operation was about and everything I needed to do both before and post operation. I felt reassured with his thoroughness, knowledge and the manner of explanation. I felt confident of his ability. He explained that he had a team of 6 and used the same medical people for all operations at NSPH.The operation was very intricate and post operation scans show that the work that Dr Mathur had performed was excellent. Persons carrying out the scans would also state that it was a wonderful piece of work. The value now works perfectly.Immediately after the 6 hour operation, Dr Mathur spoke to my wife and informed her that I was OK and the operation to repair the mitral valve was successful. His approach to her was very calming.Intensive Ward nurses were also fantastic at North Shore Private and given that I generally did not like hospitals, the treatment I received was first class. I spent 48 hours in IC and 7 more days in the ward. All care and responsibility towards me were superior. It has been 12 months now since the operation and back to normal health. Dr Mathur has had no issue with talking to me on the phone if I wanted to know anything and my follow-up visits to his rooms have always been informative.I highly recommend Dr Mathur.

Colorectal Surgeons Sydney: what do users think?
Juliette Nehme: Professional, caring and personable. Couldn’t ask for a better specialist. Thank you Dr McKay.
Helene Wong: I’m blessed to have Dr Mckay as my surgeon. He is a dedicated , thoughtful and caring doctor.Back in June this year I had a severe pain in my abdomen and needed to be admitted to hospital for urgent treatment. Dr Mckay immediately made himself available to perform surgery even though it was a Sunday morning .After the surgery he kept me informed of each procedure. I really appreciate his follow up service and commitment.Today I’m on the improve each new day.Thank you so much Dr Mckay.
Jesse McPherson: Dr Gary McKay is the best specialist I have ever dealt with, and quite likely saved my life. After having surgery in Canberra, I was on two waitlists for 4+ months. He saw me on 48 hours notice, and performed the surgery a week after our initial consultation. I was self funded, and he went out of his way to minimise the costs. Gary explained the surgery clearly, answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns. Gary is not just an excellent surgeon, but a caring person who is concerned about his patients well being, rather than someone who is in it for the money.
Nicole Harvey: Dr Gary McKay has been my surgeon for an unfortunately recurring issue (2 surgical interventions) but he has been outstanding through every occurance. He explained the situation to me clearly, ensured I was looked after and operated on quickly, provided operation reports to myself as well as my referring doctor and followed up with me after the surgery as well to ensure all was well - I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Mryan Gltan: I can’t believe after 10 years looking for a colorectal surgeon I found Dr McKay who helped me a lot! He is just great, so cool and the only dr I have ever seen don’t care about money!
Linda Lord: I am so happy that I met Dr McKay. Knowledgeable, efficient, talented, humorous with a humanitarian approach. My operation was also gap free and the follow up from Dr McKay second to none, he goes above and beyond to look after his patients!
Osman Sultani: Avoid this so called "doctor" Gary McKay, his lack of patient care was so bad I literally walked off from the hospital. And this morning I read the news that he is suspended from practice due to misconduct.. not surprised at all...
Raja Mukherjee: Very very late review. Dr MacKay is, quite easily, one of the most proficient specialists I have been treated by in this field. Truly minimalist in approach, his treatment resolved a chronically painful issue for me. This was in 2014. The best part is that the problem has barely resurfaced over the last 8 years.
사무라이무적: 국소마취 레이저로 할수있는 수술을 굳이 전신마취해야된다고 오진함.치질이 아닌데 4기 치질이라고 전신마취 해야되는 수술 권함. 조심하세요 다들
Chelsea Jin: Gary is the best surgeon we have ever had. He makes his patients feel comfortable and safe. He has treated me and my husband and did a fantastic job. Would recommend Gary to anyone. Thanks so much Dr McKay.
Jake Niki: After dealing with a very painful fissure for a year, I saw dr Mckay who treated it with Botox. Since the Botox I’ve been able to live a normal life once again!Dr McKay isn’t only a top surgeon but an overall great caring person who really cares and wants the best for his patients. He’s a really thorough and knowledgeable doctor who explains things in a way which is easy for a paitent to understand and always makes you feel really comfortable. Not to mention the staff members who are also very professional in what they do.I highly recommend dr McKay for any colorectal issues. Thanks for giving me my life back doctor, it means a lot.
P G: and requested him to help me on priority. I couldn't believe that within 24hours Dr. Gary gave me an appointment for initial visit and completed my surgery a week after. Its been a month now since my surgery and Im 100% recovered with no issues at all.Its disappointing to see that some surgeons have turned this noble profession into money making business while on other hand surgeons like Dr. Gary focus on "patient care" rather than money.Dr. Gary is a true professional and more importantly a good human
Tommy LI: Dr Gary is very professional. Highly recommended!
Nayem Raja: Dr Gary is a great surgeon and a wonderful human. He has very good command over his skills and instills confidence in his patients. His jovial and extreme friendly nature takes away all the pain and fear from his patients. I had a great time with him and quite quickly helped me out of my suffering. As I am myself a doctor I can guarantee that there are very few doctors which shows character like him. He is never after money and gives the best possible care promptly. I would strongly recommend him for any colorectal problems. 😀😀
Saranya S: Dr Gary McKay just to say in one word is “He is my God”. If anyone is suffering from Fistula I will recommend Dr Gary. Since it’s been one year after my operation, I don’t have any issues with it.I had been through many operations and ended up with depression. I have been with issue for 2.5 years. Unfortunately, I don’t have any private health insurance but he charged me with the reasonable price. Highly recommend for him and he is the best person I have seen ever and who saved my life.
Terry Pybus: I found Dr. Gary McKay to be friendly and very easy to talk to. His understanding and professional skills have improved my quality of life and I would just like to say thank you to Dr McKay and his staff for the wonderful care and great outcome. Highly recommend them for the excellent service.
Pouria Bashardoust: Dr McKay is a great surgeon and above all a wonderful human. He is very professional and friendly. He explained everything to me and made me feel comfortable from the first appointment. Highly recommended!
Manjiri Pai: I had an amazing experience with Dr McKay right from the first appointment to the post surgery follow up. DrMckay patiently explained the procedure to me and made sure that all my concerns were addressed. He's composure and knowledge made me confident that I was in safe hands. Also, I was a self funded patient and Dr McKay went out of the way to ensure that the cost was kept to a minimum. I can highly recommend Dr McKay as a surgeon who is genuinely concerned about his patients well being and care rather than someone who's in it just for the money.
Sarini Rangedera: Had a really good experience here. Dr McKay is thorough and helped get me to where I am now. He is prompt and attentive to detail. He explained everything to me so well and was so patient when I asked questions.A great person who cares about his clients. Jessica is so kind, patient, helpful and attentive. She is very good at her job and prompt, right from the beginning. Thankyou Dr McKay, Jessica and the whole team!
Melanie “Azlashay” Holan: Best surgeon ever. Completely thorough and explains everything. And also does the best surgery. I needed a hernia repair and lucky me also got a free tummy tuck. And looking at my scars they are better than alot of what you pay plastic surgeons for. I will always recommend Dr McKay to everyone I know.
Tina Hu: Dr Gary McKay is great, he is very responsible, provides informative, detailed treatment plan, and super efficient. Even before my first consultation, he already started reading all my previous reports and organised further tests for me. And then scheduled the surgery quickly. During my time at hospital, Dr McKay visited me every day to make sure I was ok. Whenever I get any concerns, Dr McKay always responds promptly. If you had any colorectal problems, highly recommend to go to see Dr McKay, he and his team would take good care of you from day one.

Tristan Yan: what do users think?
Andriano Reception: I required surgery in 2018 for a life threatening condition. Tristan Yan and his team were amazing. Tristan was always honest and supportive with his diagnosis and treatment. This gave me confidence to move forward through every stage at that time. His medical insight and empathy inspired me with the courage to accept radical surgery and treatment. I am honoured and feel privileged to have had the benefit of Tristan and his team's professionalism and expertise at the lowest point of my life. I am 65 years old, completely recovered and have a new lease on life.
Phillip Sargent: Thank you to professor Yan and his Team. Four weeks after having my minimally invasive robotic mitral valve repair, I was walking for 1 hour twice daily without shortness of breath. He was reassuring and and the way he explained the procedure and how it was done and recovery made me feel relaxed. All the surgical staff could not have been more kind and caring and thoughtful what was happing and in what I may feel in and after my surgery . My words can not express my gratitude for my experience with Professor Yan and his amazing team.
Luana Balzano: Tristan Yan is my absolute hero! I was referred to him by my cardiologist Sean Lal at RPA because I was born with a moderate prolapse of the mitral valve that got a little worst in the last few years.Since the first time I met Tristan I felt I could literally trust him with my life, and I could have not been more right. Tristan and his entire team made feel reassured, well taken care of and as if I was not going through this big surgery alone but with them.Tristan, Andrea and Luiza explained to me everything in detail, responded to all of my questions and helped me in every way possible before and after the surgery. I was able to count on them throughout the whole process and I am beyond grateful for that.I am nearly 30 years old and a GP found out I had this problem when I was 5 and living in Italy. I had been terrified of this surgery for my whole life; however, when I met Tristan and he explained to me that instead of an open heart surgery he could have repaired/replaced my valve through a few little cuts on the right side of my chest, I could not believe how lucky I was. I have not felt scared one second since after meeting Tristan and his entire team.I am writing this more than 3 months post surgery. I feel extremely grateful, healthy, energised and as if I was given a new chance in life. Tristan and his team at the Sydney Adventist Hospital saved my life and I cannot wait to find out how this surgery will continue to positively impact my life, energy level and my future.Tristan, who is the most skilled, humble, caring, determined, precise, trained and prepared cardiothoracic surgeon I have ever met, was able to repair my valve despite the complexity of my valve condition and I will be eternally grateful to him for that.Luiza and Andrea, who are the most supportive, attentive, skilled, kind, professional and knowledgeable pratice manager and nurse consultant I met, made me feel at ease, reassured and very lucky to have had them by my side.I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to have been referred to Tristan and to have been operated by the most incredible team at the Sydney Adventist Hospital.A huge thank you to all of you for your incredible work, professionalism, passion and kindness. If you need a cardiothoracic surgeon in Australia and you are so lucky to get referred to Tristan, rest assured that you are in the best hands.
Achana Seel: Prof. Yan is the most experienced surgeon I've ever met. I travelled from the NT to have the bypass surgery. It might have seemed as a scary procedure, but I felt as I was in the best hands. My whole experience from consulting, surgery and discharged home was impressive. This surgery has improved my life, and Prof. Yan and his team is to thank for that! If you are referred to Prof. Yan, please rest assure you're in the best hands in Australia. My family, my husband (Roger) and I would like to thank Prof. Yan from the bottom of our hearts!
Patrick Luu: It was definitely a blessing to have found Professor Yan and his team for my father's surgery. Everyone in the team are so professional, friendly and thorough with what they do. Our family is forever thankful and grateful for everything that Professor Yan and his team has done for us. Would highly recommend Professor Yan and his team and definitely a 10/10 from the experiences that our family has had. Many thanks again for your services.
damian gascoigne: Thanks to the pioneering Professor Yan and his team for their remarkable skill and expertise; six weeks after my minimally-invasive robotic mitral valve repair I am swimming again, totally pain-free, and have more energy than ever.As a Brit, used to the stretched resources of the beloved but ailing NHS, I found the calm, harmonious atmosphere and level of care at the RPA really impressive. The ICU cardio team and the cardio ward staff do such a valuable job, and we need to keep telling them so. A special mention must go to ICU cardio nurse Hayley Gibbs, for her infinite patience and knowledge, and for generously taking time to listen and talk me through everything that was happening.
Yanqi Xu: Words can never express our gratitude for Prof Yan's and his team on what they did for my mum. You are truly amazing, compassionate & a brilliant human being. We admire you and your team for your commitment to all of those patients and families who you treat every day.Mom was referred to Prof Yan two months ago for investigation of a shadow in her lung. It was finally diagnosed with lung cancer. It was a shock to mum and the whole family. However, mum was truly lucky to have Prof Yan's team to perform her surgery. The whole team was super professional and skilled. Thank you so much for your excellent work during my mum's lung operation. Mum experienced minimal pain during recovery, and mum and I have you to thank for everything. She was able to walk 10000+ steps a week after the surgery. It is 5 weeks after the surgery now, her wounds are all healed, and her energy level is almost back to normal. As a Registered Nurse myself, I know mum won't recover so fast without Prof Yan's perfect surgery. Moreover, Prof Yan's whole team was so helpful and kind in assisting mum's case.Thank you Kylie for all your kindness and follow ups, things are always get sorted after talk to you.Thank you is not enough to express my appreciation.Thank you Luize for answering my numerous questions about the hospital, fees etc, your patience and kindness truly helped us a lot during the hard time.Thank you Andrea. You went above and beyond to connect with my mum as a patient and listen to her concerns. Thank you so much for being such a caring, professional and skilled nurse practitioner.Thank you for you post-op care, and always get back to me on the phone, which is truly helped me with my anxiety. The medical Team at SAN hospital, thank you for all your wonderful treatment and care.Carol
我和我的家人再一次感谢Dr Tristan Yan,医术高超手到病除,态度和蔼温文尔雅,让患者感到非常亲切和舒服,并且Dr Tristan Yan的中文说的非常好!I accidentally found a 9mm spiny nodule in my right lung during CT scan.I am very grateful that Dr Tristan Yan and his team quickly contacted me to arrange for pet-scan to study the operation plan(I’m on long term blood thinner and the operation is even more dangerous)I have had a quick recovery after the surgery and I don’t need any treatment after the operation. My family and I once again thank Dr Tristan Yan for his excellent medical skills, gentle and caring manner,so that patients feel very comfortable. And Dr Tristan Yan speaks Chinese very well!
Jemma Robinson: Determined. Precise. Transparent. Attentive. Realistic. Caring. I could list another hundred words to describe Prof Yan and the team and still not come close to showing my appreciation. My family and I will forever be thankful to have been referred to Prof Yan. He took the time to build a plan to lead to the best outcome - and changed tack as required to find an even better outcome! The result of the time and thought taken was fantastic and life changing for me!Supporting Prof Yan is such a great team. The whole team, particularly Luiza and Andrea were always open to talking me through the process and facilitating our travel. Having been to many other doctors and surgeons, I can say that Prof Yan has created one of the kindest and supportive teams around him. I can not speak more highly of all of them. While I hope to never need the services of Prof Yan again personally, I would not hesitate it recommending him and the team to anyone in need.
Marianne Lovelock: Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery was my hope for mitral valve repair/replacement. Thanks to Royal Prince Alfred, Tertiary Teaching Hospital, Sydney. My surgery was a success. I believe in teaching hospitals. Trainee surgeons including nurses need access to patients willing, welcoming and trusting to help develop their knowledge and experience. Under the supervision of our Specialists based in our large capital cities.Access to these hospitals is available to all of us living in regional Australia. RPAH were in contact with me from the time of my referral throughout recovery. I live in regional NSW. We were in a pandemic and to minimise travel to Sydney all appointments were telehealth. All care and consideration was taken.Robotic Surgery delivers less pain and less blood loss. Fewer complications and quicker recovery. Getting the robots into the hospitals as well as the patients will benefit everyone.I was very well cared for throughout my stay from the ICU to the ward for discharge. My cardiologist of several decades had retired. He said to me early in our relationship ‘my primary job is to empower you to take control of your health care’. I did and then I put my trust/life into the hands of others and the future of medicine. I am grateful to RPAH.
dianne hudson: I was operated on in August this year by Professor Yan for an Aortic Aneurism, a lengthy and complicated surgery. This was key hole surgery and I was left with a tiny 5cm scar on my sternum. Post-Surgery for me was absolutely painless, no painkillers were ever needed and it was such a short time before I was walking , doing regular Physio and making light meals for myself all this due to the amazing skills of professor Yan.I cannot thank Professor Yan enough for saving my life and also being a man who is so warm, caring and compassionate, such an important part of my healing process.Professor Yan visited me in hospital on a few accessions and was happy to share any information I asked about. He also showed me scans and photos as I was interested in finding out about my procedure. He always talked to me not at me making me feel part of the team not just the soon to be forgotten patient.Whilst in ICU Professor Yan took the time to make regular calls to my daughter advising her of my current status. My daughter could not be there and was overwhelmed by these unexpected and greatly appreciated phone calls.Professor Yan has a dedicated medical team of 15 in theatre, Andrea his nurse who supplied me with invaluable information pre surgery and follow up visits in hospital, Luiza and Gosia who assisted me with paperwork for my admittance and my amazing cardiologist Dr Dennis Wang.Thank you all for being there for me and making my surgery and hospital stay a pleasant experience.
C Ann “KPL” Palumbo: Prof Tristan Yan - Our Thoughts. 11th Oct 2022When we first met Tristan Yan, we were in the position of clutching at straws after having elsewhere had diagnosis, standard surgery for mesothelioma and then been given a dire and short prognosis within the space of a year. Luckily, we didn’t like that process and it triggered a reaction so with the help of a brave young registrar we got a referral to Lifehouse.Paul had a lungful of fluid and could hardly breathe when we walked in to Lifehouse and we weren’t expecting much but we weren’t ready to give up yet. Perhaps this was what Tristan recognized in us - and what we saw in him was his passion to do more than be at the top of his surgery game. He didn’t at any time give us false hope and was completely honest about the potential outcome but he looked at Paul’s records and believed he could help. And this is what he did. He told us what he could do which gave us more time and he encouraged us to participate in the process by always being open to any questions and indeed never being phased by our challenging anything which we felt was detrimental to Paul’s survival. We know and he knows that everyone is different and has different potential to fight and sometimes the fight for life is not worth the quality of that life.We have always felt that Tristan is engaged in our treatment (I accidentally said “our” treatment and I’ve left it there because I feel just as looked after as Paul ) Tristan communicates as a human being not just a highly praised surgeon who excels at his technical skill. This is what has always given us hope and desire to keep looking for ways to deal with the challenges which come up. He has a superb team around him who take on the same characteristics of their leader. There’s no gate-keeper who prevents contact when our desperation takes over. They have the same compassion as he does and this is so rare. Many thanks to Belinda, Andrea, Luiza and Clare. We are now reaching 5 years of a meso life together that we were told we wouldn’t have. We have dealt with 5 thoracic surgeons and many other specialists as well as hospital staff. Tristan continues to look outside the square for answers to complex questions and finds those answers to our grateful relief. Prof Yan is a rare beast in this medical system and if there was more of this kind of humanity shown to patients we have no doubt there would be better care, less need for the money and staff who are run off their feet – as he is, it seems – and an easier ride to either better health or a better death.
Alem: Prof. Tristan Yan saved my life and I am forever grateful and blessed for his expertise and skills in performing my surgeries.Prof. Yan has been involved in 3 of my surgeries. Originally I was diagnosed with an aortic dissection and aortic aneurysm requiring urgent surgery. I had my aortic repair completed in multiple stages as advised by Prof. Yan and his team.Prof. Yan is truly a blessing and to know he was my surgeon put me at ease during one of the most difficult times in my life. He is compassionate, caring and explains everything in detail and in a way that's easy for you to understand. The after-care team at RPA are also a godsend, especially Nurse Hayley whom I am very grateful for as she was looking after me for months post op to ensure my wound was healing properly. She constantly liased with Prof. Yan to ensure I was on the right track to recovery. Thankyou for all that you have done.I was very fortunate to have been a patient of Prof. Yan and his team. Thankyou for repairing my Aorta, God bless!
Anna Galathris: Dr Yan gives a lot attention to detail and staff r on the ball it’s comforting yr in safe hands with the team Also Bronchoscopey great team Dr Keith Wong and team were very helpful with all my questions
Liliane Fernandes: I am 41 years old, non smoker, healthy and fit mother of 1 young kid, asymptomatic.I had a incidental lung nodule found by CT chest done last year, it was repeated and a ground glass lung nodule was stable, but lung cancer needed to be excluded. Went to see the experienced surgeon Prof. Tristan D. Yan and his Team (beautiful both nurse Andrea and Luisa), we wisely decided to go ahead with a surgical excision - partial lobectomy for diagnosis and treatment.Lucky and blessed, histopathology showed an STAGE 0, in situ Adenocarcinoma Lung, for now resection was successful and curable, requiring regular low dose CT chest for monitoring.I can't thank enough Prof Tristan and his amazing Team for all the empathy, professionalism, respect and care I had through one of the hardest time in my life. Early detection saves lives!
Hao Zhou: Professor Yan is a highly trained and skilled heart surgeon. He did a great heart bypass operation on me and I was discharged within 4 days after operation, recovering in a short period of time. Really appreciate his great surgical skill, and his teams' professionalism. Highly recommend!

Kamila Liu: If you’ve been referred to Prof. Tristan Yan, you’re definitely in the best hands!I am really grateful to Prof. Tristan & his whole team for saving my life after a successful minimally invasive aortic surgery. Words can’t express my gratitude 🙏2 months ago, I found out that I had a severe aortic root aneurysm and my aorta needed to be replaced.I was really scared, because I’m just 31 and out of a sudden I had to make this huge decision of going through an urgent open heart surgery. After being advised by my cardiologist that Prof. Tristan is THE authority in Australia in this field and after reading amazing reviews about him, I finally had my consultation with Prof. Tristan. He’s very professional, calm and was very patient to explain in details all the thousand of questions that I had, which gave me the extra confidence to go ahead with the surgery. You can tell that he has a lot of experience and is a good-natured person, which I found it to be very reassuring. My recovery after the surgery at the Sydney Adventist Hospital was so fast that I couldn’t believe it. I received the best care from all the hospital staff and Professor Tristan’s team 💕I’m writing this review 5 weeks after the surgery and I feel like my energy level is definitely back to my pre-surgery time.My post surgery scar is looking very small, thanks to Prof. Yan’s minimally invasive technique, and I can tell day by day that it’s blending in quickly. To finish this review, I’d like to mention the enormous support I received from Luiza & Andrea! Thanks girls for the emotional support, helping me arrange the surgery with my insurance as fast as possible and for all the amazing care post-surgery that definitely eased my anxiety 🌹Also, thanks to Dr. Stephen & Dr. Andy for being part of my successful procedure! Thanks again Prof. Yan, you are an amazing and mostly dedicated surgeon! Feel so lucky to have been referred to you 😊Kamila
Max Stead: Dr. Yan was very caring and explained everything very well, with a lot of detail. He gave me confidence and was both professional and empathetic. I had great results with him and recommend him very highly. He's also supported by a wonderful team.

Sydney Bariatric Clinic: what do users think?
Leighsa Carter: I started to liaise with Dr Cocco in October 21 to see what options would best suit me and my needs. Together, we decided on the bypass. This was not a decision made instantly and Dr Cocco made sure multiple times that I was comfortable with the decision and I was booked in the for the 28.02.22.This has been the best decision I have ever made. I sat at my highest weight of 138kgs. Surgery weight was 131 approximately. I am happy and excited to day that today I sit at a 50 kg loss and still more to go! Sydney’s Bariatric came highly recommended to me and I honestly would not recommend my friends or family members go anywhere else!
Blanche Youssef: Thank you so much for all your support during this past year on my journey towards my weight loss operation.Holly Mel and Amanda were brilliant in handling my questions and gave me all the correct information both Juliette and I needed along the way which put us at ease.It has now been 3 weeks post op, the duo mother/daughter patients are excited to report we are doing well and have each lost an amazing 14kg so far.I feel great and look great and looking positive for a new and healthier me.The doctors, nurses and all the staff at the Lake View private hospital were amazing during our 2 night stay.I couldn’t recommend enough Dr Ryan and Dr Layden and all the surgical team who gave up their public holiday to come in and do the surgery on the day. Please pass on a big Thankyou to Dr Ryan who surgically fixed a hernia I had whilst he was performing the operation on the sleeve.A big massive thankyou to all,
Karen Moreland: My husband and I each had bariatric surgery earlier this year. My husbands surgeon was Dr Ryan, and mine was Dr Cocco. The whole experience from the beginning, surgery day and aftercare was fantastic. The team are professional/courteous and friendly. We were kept informed throughout the whole process, the surgeries went really well and the follow up services are fantastic. We would highly recommend the Sydney Bariatric Clinic for anyone considering bariatric surgery.
F Shahzad: My wife has been to several hospitals and had multiple surgeries. Dr Brendan Ryan and his team far excel any other surgeon. He showed surgery and hospital care with perfection :-)
Patrick Hamilton: Extremely satisfied with SBC. From my first consult up until surgery all the appointments I attended provided sufficient information and expert knowledge to help me understand the surgery. On the surgery day, Dr Brendan spoke to me before surgery which helped with my nerves as I was very nervous. Post surgery support by Amanda was fantastic in getting me ready to be discharged from the hospital. I have had both my first and second follow up appointments with both the Dr and Dietician who have provided me with expert knowledge on how to continue my weightloss journey as the first few weeks were a struggle with adapting to the new ways of eating. I am now 3 months post surgery and feel like I am comfortable and have met my new normal and I am down 35kgs which is aprox. 75% of my excess weight.
Steve Colley: worst thing I ever did , could not wake up from anesethic and Bredan Ryan could not care after initial consult...BEWARE
Belinda Tokoli: Twelve months ago I would not have thought I’d be where I am today, from pole dancing to being active with my nieces. Making the decision to have weight loss surgery was the first step in changing my life for the better. From my first consultation at Sydney Bariatric Clinic I felt at ease and comfortable with my decision. The staff have been amazing always willing to help answer questions. The process and time frame from consultation to surgery day was smooth and easy. The aftercare has been amazing. From being able to call up or even email if I had a question or not sure of something has been wonderful. Dr Tony, Amanda and Catherine have been supportive. I can not thank the team enough for the support they have given me on this new lease of life. Best decision I’ve ever made.
Nicole Haigh: I had my Gastric Sleeve operation with Dr C. Jameson @ SBC in 2019 and 100% recommend them to anyone who is interested in weight loss surgery. My surgery was completed with no issues, and the whole clinic was incredibly supportive and kept me informed in the weeks prior to (and now years after) my surgery. Special shout-out to Dr Tony Brancatisano who I still have regular yearly appointments with to keep monitoring my health! Cannot recommend this clinic highly enough :)Thank you for taking care of me!
Gary Adams: I was a patient of Sydney Bariatric Clinic in August last year when I had gastric sleeve surgery. From my very first appointment with the surgeon, through to my procedure at Westmead Private Hospital, and my recovery in the following weeks, I could not fault the care and attention of every staff member. All the details of the procedure were thoroughly explained to me and I was given plenty of opportunity to ask questions and make an informed decision. In the difficult post-op days I was afforded lots of support and never felt like I was on my own.I would like to make special mention of practice nurse Amanda whose care, compassion and professionalism was outstanding, all delivered with an excellent sense of humour.I would not hesitate to recommend this practice to anyone considering bariatric surgery. It was a five-star experience all round.
Kellie Smith: I would highly recommend Sydney Bariatric Clinic. The whole team are amazing. They could not have been more helpful from the start of my initial enquiries, through to my pre-op appointments and now with my post-op appointments and support. I am currently 8 weeks post op after an Omega Loop Gastric Bypass. I have been able to lose 24kg so far and I could not have done that without the wonderful support from the amazing admin staff, the nurses, dietitians, psychologists as well as the fantastic Dr Ryan, Dr Brancatisano and Dr Leydon. Thank you for helping me gain my life back.
Rachel Asker: I am 3 weeks post surgery and am very happy with the service I have received. On my initial phone call to them the receptionist gave me all the information requested and answered my questions the best she could. Dr Coco always contacted me for my appointments (telehealth due to covid) and gave me so much information and answered any questions or concerns I had. Once my surgery was booked all pre and post appointments were booked at the same time. I have found the entire team to be caring and forthcoming, I am very happy with my decision to go to them.
betty wehbe: The best surgeon highly recommended
Justine Stamatakis: Being so nervous going into my first appointment, this went once I met the staff in the office. Claire and Amanda were lovely and supportive. Dr Ryan I found to be kind and compassionate and professional. He listened actively to what I was saying and I never once did I feel embarrassed about my weight. I felt comfortable immediately with him and left feeling confident about my decision. The care and communication following this appointment has been exceptional. Information provided is clear and concise and questions are answered quickly. Dr John is wonderful and so were Dr Hill and Dr Tony. This is truly a team that works together seamlessly. It is obvious there is an ease between the members which was very clear through the respectful way they spoke about each other. The doctors are obviously supported by wonderful nursing and administration staff. I would absolutely recommend the Sydney Bariatric Clinic. I can honestly say I was more nervous going into my very first appointment than being taken in for the surgery itself which went better than I could have hoped. These people care about their patients.
Francesca Scarfone: I’m 6weeks post op from band to bypass and already a new woman.. I can’t say enough about the staff at the clinic from when you walk through those doors you are treated like family. What can I say about Dr Nick and Dr Tony the most amazing caring doctors you could have..I would recommend this clinic to anyone thinking of any procedure you won’t regret it..
nicole graham: The Team at Sydney Bariatric Clinic has been so supportive throughout my journey, I would recommend them to anyone they make you feel like you are apart of the family.
Wendy Webeck: I cannot begin to express how much the whole team at SBC have done for me in changing my life. From the moment I walked through the door, I was met with smiles from the reception staff , and open communication that followed through the whole clinic.Their professionalism is above and beyond expectations .Claire and Amanda the practice nurses are welcoming and did not mind that I ask the same question a thousand times over .I cannot thank the team enough !!!!!I am now living my best life !!!!I no longer feel I am just exisiting .
Michael Hay: Positive:Communication,ProfessionalismThey are amazing people. They are willing to do anything to help support you and your goals. Amanda is so supportive and her bubbly personality is just so infectious. Dr Jameson was my surgeon but I have heard from others that it doesn't matter who you choose there they are all amazing.
Chris: Couldn't recommend the Sydney Bariatric Centre enough. Dr Ryan is the most down to earth doctor I have ever met and not to mention his team! I feel like I'm part of the family now and have made some great friends! Thank you so much for helping me get my life back on track! For anyone reading this, remember surgery is just a tool, you need to make life changes to keep the weight off for good.
Deb Shirley: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityI cannot fault the care and professionalism of this clinic
Pro Fess: Critical:Communication,Professionalism,QualityHorrible staff & clinic - would not recommend, wish there was less than one star to give.
Therese Hoogesteger: I first met with Dr Ryan to help me take steps to fix my kidney health.Living with obesity, hypertension, cardiac issues, and renal failure, getting to a healthy weight could help my kidney function and I had gastric sleeve surgery in October 2016, revising to omega loop bypass in June 2018.I have lost over 50kg, I'm on much decreased medication each day for blood pressure, cholesterol and my kidney function has risen from 12% to 24%.My aim was never to be skinny - it was always to get to a transplantable weight and without Dr Ryan and his team it would not have been possible. From day one, I have received treatment that cannot be faulted, and nothing is ever a trouble, with the ability to contact Dr Ryan and/or the team to clarify things where needed. From the girls on the front desk, who know all the patients by name, an anaesthetist that puts you at ease, a nurse who guides you through preoperative and postoperative care, to the finance manager, physio and dietitian.Top rate, seamless, personalised service, professionalism and devotion to their patients, worthy of the praise they receive in the field of bariatric surgery, from patients, doctors and specialists alike. I wish that I had met this amazing, devoted surgeon 20 years earlier.Thank you Dr Ryan (and your entire team) for your instrumental role in helping change and improve my (and my husband's) health. We will forever be indebted to you and so very thankful, every single day, that our paths intersected.
