gaurav kakade: Rice has the right amount of spices to give a flavorful taste. Chicken was too dry from inside. Felt as if it was a stir fried dry chicken with masala. If the biryani was slow cooked after well marinated chicken , expected chicken to be tender and juicy.Staff was helpful to accommodate me without reservation with quick service.Ambiance is decent and dinning space is cramped up to fit more tables.
Sergey Lisnic: Google reviews can be misleading ... I have chosen the restaurant based on the reviews, but I'm not going back.$70 later without any drinks, the two of us walked out half hungry. The $30 palak paneer came in a fancy teeny tiny plate and the dahl came in the same quantity. Food OK, but severely overpriced. Should have chosen any other eatery in the area.
Narayan Kannan: Food is well prepared. Flavourful and tasty. Good ambience. Defiantly priced at the higher end among Indian restaurants - which is fine but the portions are 20% lesser than other Indian restaurants- so be prepared to pay possibly 30-40% more for a similar meal. For this reason scores poorly on value.
Dilbag Singh: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Pappadum with Dip, Spice Room Butter Chicken, Roti Palak PaneerMore
Kristal Lovkwood: Firstly they made us uncomfortable by moving us on a little congested table so that they can have a table for 1 guests coming , was really embarrassing.Food is below average and serves are really small as compared to price

Sivarajan S: Everyone who comes to the restaurant is a customer. Why do you behave differently to black..I feel so bad to come to this restaurant. If this behaviour continues, you will lose your business one day and go to the street where you will also be treated the same way you did.
Kerry Pronk: Delicious Indian in a convenient location. Food is tasty and quick. The service felt very rushed.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/3|Atmosphere: 5/3Recommended dishes Vegan …More

Surjit's Indian Restaurant: what do users think?
John O'Hare: We've always had a special place in our hearts for Surjit's ... its honestly one of the best if not the best Indian restaurant around. In the days before COVID we've dined in and enjoyed the extensive menu, wonderful service and great atmosphere ... returned just last night for take away and had a wonderful feast of their minty chicken tikka which has to be tasted to be believed, and their furiously flavourful dhal makhani ... its always hard to go past delicious meat curries but this lentil & kidney bean wonder is just amazing. It's sad Surjit himself moved on from this world earlier this year but his incredible wife and devoted son keep this delicious local (and internationally reknowned) business running fabulously and his legacy is in the best hands it could be.If you're looking for a curry with full rich authentic flavours and the genuinely warm service of a family restaurant look no further than Surjit's ... you will not be disappointed. Thank you do much for a wonderful Friday night meal.Vegetarian options: They have plenty of meat options and plenty of non-meat options.Kid-friendliness: Kids have always been welcome here every time we've been.Parking: You can park outside on Parramatta Road after the bus lane time has passed and there are side roads nearby too.Wheelchair accessibility: No steps and wide entrance with street parking.Dietary restrictions: They list which menu options have which flags.
Natanya full: Can’t wait to go back- and super excited that the restaurant is now open!I’m looking forward to the lamb cutlets- they are divine!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Fresh Garlic Naan, Beef Vindaloo, Chilli Prawns, Biryanis, Chicken Tikka Masala …More
Tanveer S Mokha: Surjit’s has got to be the best food you can find in Sydney hands down. There is so much attention to the presentation, flavour, and use of fresh ingredients, they simply masters at their service. We’ve had both dine in and catering experience with the team and they amaze us every time. We cannot thank Surjit’s enough!
Tanveer Janine: Surjit’s catered our wedding recently and we cannot thank them enough. Their food was superb, fresh, flavourful and presented elegantly. Rasan and the team are incredibly welcoming and took care of everything with such professionalism. We cannot recommend Surjit’s enough, you will definitely not regret it!Thank you to Rasan and the team again for making our wedding so special.
Natasha Bhojwani: Surjits catered the Wedding Reception for my beloved daughter on the weekend of 2nd of April. What an outstanding service and impeccable quality of food provided. All my guests thoroughly enjoyed the food and are still raving about it. We are very thankful to Rassan for making the day exceptional and wish you the very best.
Rena Kaur: Rasan at Surjit's Indian Restaurant provided beautiful food for my special event. With a mix of Indian and non-Indian guests, all palettes were pleased! I ordered morning tea and lunch. The favourite of the littlest guests was the butter paneer, fruit platter and sweets. Received so much positive feedback about the quality of the food on the day and everything went smoothly with professional staff. Highly recommend.
Karen Cooper: A very big thank you to Rasan and the chef at Surjits for arranging a feast last week for Friday lunch at the Asylum Seekers Centre in Newtown. The food was delicious and everyone at the Centre commented on how good it was. Your help with this was much appreciated by all. Will definitely come back to you in the future
Thivya P (Tivee26): Surjit's provided catering for my wedding and it was amazing. Excellent service and Rasan was a pleasure to work with.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/4 …More
Rajinder Gupta: Surjit’s is simply delightful at catering. Their work at my daughter’s 21st was amazing. The food was incredible and the guests kept coming back for more. More importantly, I was extremely impressed by the service that all his waitstaff had at the party and how they were constantly engrossed in keeping us full with the best catering that I’ve have seen at any event. The food was on another level, with the koftas and the kebabs respectively being the stars of the evening. The level of care that was evident in the presentation of the food and I was extremely impressed with Surjit as he was polite and was simply engrossed in providing the best food for our event. A treat for us and all our guests.
Ritu Gupta: I want to give Rasan, Surjit catering 5 star I wish I can give him more than that. He did catering on my daughter’s 21st at Epping club. He is a very hard worker , he cooked all the dishes from scratch no frozen stuff . They were so delicious . Every single person at the party enjoyed the food. He created canopy dishes with baingan ka bharta, never saw such an amazing dish. The kebabs were so good. On the whole everything was excellent. He is the best. On top of that he is a very good human being. Thanks Rasan once again . God bless you.
Khushee Gupta: I recently celebrated my 21st with catering from Surjit’s and was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff. From start to finish, the catering team was attentive and responsive, working closely with us to create a menu that fit our specific dietary needs and preferences. The food itself was absolutely delicious, with a great mix of classic and contemporary dishes that pleased all our guests. The presentation was also top-notch, with each dish beautifully arranged and garnished!Big thank you to Rasan for being so amazing and cooperative in everything he did and a big salute to his lovely mum for being so hardworking!
Anitha Reddy: Rasan catered our wedding and reception and choosing him was one of the best decisions we made! He took the time to listen to us and the feedback we had after our tasting and we received so many compliments on the food! Such high praise for an Indian wedding! Thank you so much to Rasan and the team - you were absolutely amazing! We can’t thank you enough for the time, effort and love you put into your food and for helping us create such a wonderful event! Thank you!!
Kalyan: We went with Surjit's Catering for our wedding in February and we were blown away by the professionalism, expertise, and friendliness exhibited by Rasan and his team. Food nourishes the soul and my partner and I were ecstatic with all the positive reviews and feedback received from our wedding attendees. Rasan makes it his singular goal to cook with absolute passion as was witnessed on the day when he cooked on-site from 11 am in the morning for a dinner service. He went beyond the regular bounds of a chef/ caterer and became a dear friend by checking in on us regularly leading up to the wedding and being more than accommodating with tasting sessions. Our decision to go with Rasan was only reaffirmed when our venue coordinator decided to spend the entire night on-site to taste his food yet again. We could talk for days about all the awards and accolades that Surjit's catering has received, but at the end of the day, it's his personality, humor, and commitment to detail that made it impossible to go with anyone else. We would recommend Rasan whole-heartedly and personally guarantee that when he says he will "cook with his heart", he absolutely 100% means it. We can't wait to taste his food again!BEST IN THE BUSINESS! 10/10 SERVICE
Shreya: We hired Surjit’s catering for our pre-wedding and wedding reception event.I have one word for Rasan - he is a superstar.Extremely easy to talk to, was interested to know our backgrounds and designed a customised menu for us so both sides of the family could be catered to.Needless to say, Surjits team delivered excellent food and all our guests couldn’t stop raving about the delicious meal.If you want a vendor who treats you like family and goes above and beyond for your event requirements, look no further!! Highly recommended!!
Nipun Kumar: We recently had the pleasure to work with Rasan from Surjit's to cater our 40th birthday function at home. From the get go we were so impressed with Rasan's personal interest, professionalism and commitment to doing his absolute best for the client. Every facet of our dealings with Rasan was handled with care, attention to detail and in a timely manner. The quality of the food he delivered on the night elevated our function to another level. All our guests were blown away by the variety and quality of each item and they all tasted beyond amazing. Rasan came prepared to deliver his absolute best with a dedicated and professional team and he ensured that the food flowed throughout the evening. We would undoubtedly and wholeheartedly recommend Rasan and the whole team at Surjit's for any function no matter big or small.
Jas M: Rasan catered our wedding and reception for over 400+ people. The food was absolutely delicious and he was so easy to work with. He was able to create exciting versions of traditional dishes we loved and his attention to detail ensured the food was memorable for all our guests. Cannot recommend Rasan and his team enough.
Rishika Kumar: Rasan and his team catered my wedding events and I could not fault a single thing! We had multiple meetings to discuss the menus including a venue visit to ensure Rasan was familiar with the kitchen prior to the event. He took the time to familiarise himself with our vision and coordinates with the venue, entertainment and MC's on the night to ensure everything is running smoothly. Since the food is cooked fresh on site the taste and quality is truly unparalleled - all of our guests left each event with nothing but great things to say about the food! Only complaint I have is that I didn't get to have enough of it myself!! Surjit's is hands down the best Indian caterer in Sydney!
Ken McCormack: Have dropped by twice, closed both times, the opening hours on google maps aren't correct
meeta dubey: Surjit's catering is par excellence. We have been dealing with them for the past 15 years and Rasan and not once given us a chance to complaint. You have to just let them know what you want and the rest is taken care of so well, it is amazing. Five stars all the way. I wouldn't go to anyone else.Thank you for all the beautiful parties you have helped us host .Kudos to Surjit's .
Auntora Chowdhury: We had Surjit cater a home engagement ceremony, and were floored by the personalised and high-quality service. Not only was the food tasteful and well received by all our guests, but Rasan and his team were always just a phone call away for follow-ups and questions leading up to our big day. There was no issue in communication or sharing feedback after the event. The team at Surjit's displayed excellent professionalism and passion, and we can't wait to have them cater for us again in the future.Thank you again!
Sonny Brar: I had Rasan from Surjit's Indian restaurant do some catering for my sons wedding (Sangeet night and the reception).Rasan himself was there and made sure the food was coming out fresh..! Cooking was done on the premises and was beautifully presented, something you would expect to see in a 5 star hotel. Full credit to Rasan and the team..!

Sathish N: Great atmosphere. However, this place lacks something. We went with a large group of 15 people (3 families). When they agree to accommodate us, they should not treat us as if we are there for free food. We waited for sooooo long for the food to come to the table. Kids were starving and we couldn't control them. The worst biryani we ever had, how come a biryani be watery. We returned the biriyani and they served another, but that doesn't taste like biriyani at all. It's a bit pricy as well. You can visit this place for the rotis and curries were good. The goat meat in the curry was nicely cooked and it was so temder. I am giving 3 * only for that.
Rosina Pukeroa: Loved the food service was good aswell even for the kids

Mandeep Singh: This place never disappoints, service is 5* and food is 5*. Came all the way from Drummoyne to try their food. 100% will recommend to everyone.
Vinod Raman: We wanted to try out some new restaurants around this area and we came across this cute little place. Chicken pachranga & chicken darbari were prepared in authentic Mughlai style. The keema naan is a must try here. The chicken biriyani could have been better as it tasted a lot like fried rice. Overall, I liked everything that was there on my plate
Lovey: Great food and service 5/5
angadh ramakrishnan: Worst place to order!
Arvind Singh: Absolutely rubbish, curry are mixed with corn flour to make it look thick, no spices, no flavour. Used to be so good but now it’s below average
Pratik Dave: We have been going here since last 11 years and there is no one time where we have been disappointed. We love their service, owners greetings, food is just 10/10.They also allow my four legged family member so we all as family sit outside and enjoy nice lunch or dinner.Palak Paneer is must try here. Thanks for wonderful time.
Vishal Bhagani: Do NOT order from here, food is very very unhealthy, is sweet and very very oily, very dangerous!!! Cheese naan was very raw.Do not order, do not go here, walk away!!!!!!
Hemant Chand: We ordered few food, is really nice and freshly made. Fair price and clean restaurant.Service is really good. Will come back, when travel to Sydney again.👍👍👍Recommended dishes Chicken Tikka, Cheese Naan …More

simon elias: We turned up for lunch after driving for 20 minutes about 10 minutes before closing time listed on there website. They did serve us so the rating is based on your advertised hours. If your website says your open and someone comes 1 minute before closing time you should honor that. My understanding with restaurants is that closing time represents last orders .
Sunny Bansal: Great food and service every time.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
R M: Good food and good service . Enjoyed it .
Donna Wallace: really nice food, but very expensive.
Robert Brown: The way the serving dishes are designed, it does not allow enough meat or sauce and shared by six people, was a problem. However, those serving dishes are alright for one or two.I must also add, we did order 2 of each just to get the sauce otherwise the rice would have been to dry.I will buy an Indian take away next time than going to a restaurant.I don't think it was value for money, which I find in all Indian restaurants. Chinese ,Thai, Vietnamese and Korean are places of value.Parking: Free parking is only available on Concord Road after 7pm and not many available parking in the side streets.
Christine Mai: This restaurant serves such delicious Indian food. We shared an entree and 2 mains and everything was sensational. Service was also very good. Highly recommended!

Abhishek Bhandari: absolutely the worst butter chicken i have ever had in 12 countries!
Apeksha Halasagi: Staff were super friendly, and food came out in a timely manner. We had the Palak Phata Chaat, which was amazing. The Chicken Varutha and Veg Korma were delicious, a little spicy but perfect for our taste. We ended the night with the Double-Ka-Meetha, which was also quite lovely. Overall, we highly recommend this place to those who want to try a mix of North and South indian foods.
Kalpa Parbhoo: It was freezing upstairs. They don't have bathroom facilities to change a baby /toddler's nappy and we waited 1/2 hour for our dessert. This experience was really disappointing as we love the food and used to go quite often..Food: 5/5|Service: 5/2|Atmosphere: 5/3 …More

Sonia Heinrich: Very good service, delicious curries and garlic naan! Nice wine list of Zilzie wines which paired well with the food and kingfisher on tap. Loved sitting outside on Stanley street, will be back!
Aish N: The name of this restaurant is deeply offensive.
Semi Navunisinu: Food was very delicious from the drinks to the entree all the way to the mains I had the Anglo mango chicken and the chicken was like silkVegetarian options: The options for vegetarian was really good all the way from the entree to mains. The vegetarian samosa was a deliciousKid-friendliness: Very kid friendly.
Federica: Amazing value, curry's were very tasty!!
Pascale Gay: Went In on a Sunday evening, not too busy which was great as was catching up with mum and wanted a place to catchup over dinner. The service was great! Friendly staff, great food. We got the tikka chicken and onion bhaji for entrees, and curries for mains.Great quality food aswell. I've been to Indian places where the curry was thin and watery, this was not that experience. The curries were thick and rich in flavour.I would recommend for anyone who wants an intimate dinner experience with yummy food.
Masha Osadcha: Such a good experience, the food is amazing!!!!! My new fav!Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian
Clayton Roper: Great vibe and tasty food. My wife and her family are English. Reminded them of home. We enjoyed a nice mother's day meal. Would come back again 😀
angela jones: Ate to much it was solo let, friendly staffFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Chicken Tikka Masala, Naan …More
Nidhi Gupta: I've tried a lot of Indian restaurants in the area, but this is definitely the best restaurant in Sydney. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Saurabh Mishra: Would not recommend. We booked Indian feast for two dine in experience. Were expecting better decor and sitting arrangements but very mediocre in this aspect.First, we got starters. One Samosa, one pakora, paneer tikka and aloo tikki. Aloo tikki tasted the same like Haldiram's. Samosa and pakora were average and paneer tikka was just paneer in some marinate, not even cooked properly. In mains, we had chikcen tikka masala and paneer tikka masala. Both very bland and also not tikka. Paneer tikka masala was also undercooked. The mojitos were good.
Thayet Pendragon: Great food and staff. I have very little tolerance for heat (chilli), so even the mild curry was a bit spicy for me, but the mango lassi helped with that, and the naan was phenomenonal.
Chilokver: Food tasted nice, though it lacked the spice and kick that I've experienced from Indian food elsewhere- no complaints seeing as it is very explicitly a British Indian restaurant. Neither good nor bad value for the price of a filling meal. The service was OK at the time (~9pm, only one other table with one waitress).3.5/5.
Pankaj Rawat: The best indian restaurant in Sydney for authentic Indian food. The food is awesome and fresh. Naan bread is so soft you hardly find anywhere in Sydney. All curries are made in pure ghee. An amazing dining experience, lovely atmosphere, great service. A must to experience if you love indian food. * * * * *Vegetarian options: Paneer Butter MasalaMixed Veg KormaDaal TadkaVeg PakodaSamosa Chat
Lachlan Nguyen: I did not have a good experience with the Colonial British Indian Cuisine Darlinghurst, specifically the man/manager in charge of answering the phones.I ordered off UberEats at approximately 8pm and received a notification that my order had arrived. I went outside to check and found that this was not the case. I attempted to contact the uber driver to no avail and proceeded to contact the restaurant directly. This is where the problem started. After contacting the restaurant, the man who picked up confirmed my order and told me it was still at the restaurant. I asked him if there were any plans for it to be delivered or if there was a driver on the way, he said he was not sure. I asked him what the plan was then, if my food was just going to be left there. He had no regard for my order, just kept repeating himself saying "it is still here". I decided to give them half an hour to try and sort the situation out. I called back in half an hour and asked about the updates, he continued to repeat himself saying "it is still here" and provided ZERO updates on what was going to happen. I decided to go there myself to pick up the food.Upon arriving, I met the man who was on the phone with me. I asked why the situation came to be, he kept repeating "this never happens" and told me i should go sort out the situation with uber myself. I asked him as a customer, when a situation like this arises, what usually happens and what is the protocol. He said he did not know, "this never happens". I was frustrated that he did not apologise or provide any solution to remedy the situation. He did not apologise for any inconveniences, he just continued to say "i dont know, this never happens, this is a problem with uber". My food had been sitting there for an hour by that time. He offered no compensations, and I realised my questions were falling on deaf ears so I decided to leave. As expected, when I got home, my food had gone cold. To my surprise, it was alot smaller than what I expected. I used to frequently go to the British Colonial in Neutral Bay, where paying $28 for a chicken korma would get me a sizeable container. I have attached the size of the curry they gave me. Their Naan Bread was also quite hollow, and unsavoury.I cannot recommend this place for anyone. I am honestly very sad as I used to love my old British Colonial restaurant. Sadly, this experience has shown me the little care and regard the restaurant has for its customers. It has also shown me the incapability to not only resolve a complication but also to even acknowledge and take responsibility for it.
DVH: We came here during The Fork festival and loved the food, especially the range of vegan options. They seemed quite busy and the food took a while to arrive but it was really tasty, and the cocktail was nice too!
ekta dhar: Food wasn't good at all. We ordered daal makhni which was completely uncooked. Rest of the stuff was also not worth the money.Food: 5/2|Service: 5/3 …More
Karen Ellams: Visiting Sydney and found this fabulous Indian. One of the best Chicken Madras' I've ever had. The chicken was so tender and cooked to perfection. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you're in the city.
Chris G: Stale environment with terrible decor and overzealous lighting. Woefully understaffed, after over an hour of waiting they had only produced some of our starters… as a table of four we walked out. Do not come here.
Stuart Rowan: Average curry, under seasoned rice and, though requested spicy, the balti was not spicy, nor a balti (in UK style)Table water very warm.Too few staff for venue. Not terrible but definitely not good
Lea: Food and service was good but menu prices are not updated. We ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala (displayed as $23,90 on several menus) that was $2,10 more on the bill. Similar for steamed rice and naan bread (about $ 1 price difference each). Adds up quickly. They would at least have to make you aware that the prices haven't been updated! Besides that, the Chicken Tikka Masala was done mild even though we decided for medium.
